Loosing feathers ?

Hey I have a little IRN girl about 8 weeks., she has lost a tail feather and now a swing feather is loose. Is that normal already to molt in that age ?

Re: Advice needed about behaviour pretty please!

I think you are doing a great job. I wouldnt let him on your shoulder until you trust him and he have stopped his attacks. I would put him back in his cage or on his play stand. til he calm down. avoid too much eye contact. talk to him while in the cage and treat him when doing good. Keep up the goo...

I have a question I have read at a page, ( cant remember which) that if you want hand feed a little baby you should take them from parrents when they are about 14 days. And they are finsihed weaning when they are beween 10 - 15 weeks. But i see many here that have got new birds at teh age og 3 weeks...

Re: Biting ?

I am not an expert in aviaries , but most aviary birds have acces to both outside and inside doing the winter. There is a heated area inside where there are food and water and maybe nests if breeding, and then a whole they can go out. Birds have to get used to the weather here because its gets prety...

Hey InTheAir it sound really nice with your bird. Actually i have read some more into it aswell, and the more i think about it i wish they would not write so warningly about it. Re: WING CLIPPING

I agree with Komodo, i would never clip my birds wings . It is the owners job to keep him safe, birds have wings to fly. It is the same as breaking little boys legs to say its so he wont run out and get hurt. So sad. If you want a bird, you should take precausions to make his environment safe enough...

I have been reading some or many of the post here, and i can see many have problems with biting. Is that something in general they do also when the bluffing period is over? Is that general behavior for Ringnecks ?

Re: Advice needed about behaviour pretty please!

Aw he looks really cute !! I think maybe wait with the command sound til he know what its all about., When you get him to turn, praise him and reward. if you put the command on before he is sure about the trick, you might in the end have taught him not to turn before you have said it 2- 3- 4- times ...

Yes i think you should train him. I also think what ellieelectrons say , maybe a little less out time. you can easily spend timw with your bird without taking him out., I dont know if you know trick -or target training. Re: Advice needed about behaviour pretty please!

After what i have read, it sound like Bluffing. They do it to the older bird in the flock as well and they ignore them. I think the best is not to do too much training in this periode as you might accidently train some unfortunate behaviour. I think take it easy with him and hope it will go over aga...

LOL there is a lot of flaws in my writing i can see. that. I have never had a bird trained for free flight. but i c...

Re: I am new

We treasure flighted birds here. Not many clip wings here.

And i agree. i think birds got wings to fly, and if we chose to have a bird it is our resposiblity to make sure that a flighted bird wont get hurt.

But i also know it is a delicate subject and there are many different oppinions. :)

Well i think no matter how much one tries to learn ,there is always much more to be learned. But i think its important to at least do what one can. That way things might be a little better. But having said that, all birds , well living beings, are all individuals. It is impossible to know everything...

Thank you for your advise MissK. I will look at the breeder page. However. Ringnecks are not normally kept here in denmark as tame birds.
