Re: Picky eater

Haha that's cute. I can just picture my guy doing just that! Maybe try not giving him (steamed) sweet potato for a while... If my IRN decides he's got a sole diet of say, carrot and nothing else, i'll just not give it to him for a while. That way once he realises there's no carrot he can get a taste...

Re: Charging and pecking/biting

Sounds like she's just being territorial, and perhaps more so because she's reaching sexual maturity :) My IRN is sometimes like that with his cage, but mostly when he's with his best friend, my blue budgie... Very protective of his budgie friend!! He likes me but not a huge fan of my man. He'll giv...

Re: Tail bobbing?

Sneezing often is not a good sign... Once in a while, like once in a week is ok but more then a couple of times a day is a worry... It sounds to me like he has a chest/lung infection, and needs to see an AVIAN vet as soon as possible... Tail bobbing is usually a sign that they are having difficulty ...

Re: baths

It's great if he's bathing! Let him bath as often as he wants. It's good that he wants to be clean it shows he's healthy and happy :) My IRN likes to have showers with me, he'll sit on a face cloth hung over the shower head while I do my thing, and sit on my shoulder and stick his head under quickly...

Re: Need help on keeping IRN on shoulder in public!

Aw.. Yeah it's very scary when they do bail... If only they knew to stay put! They know when to stay put most of the time... They don't know that fight or flight when out of home means owner will fight and don't do the flight! Especially with no wings! I'm thinking about purchasing a flight harness....

Need help on keeping IRN on shoulder in public!

Hey all =) So I have my ( nearly 2yo) IRN back after 7 months, and it's like we never got separated.. He stayed with my parents for that duration and hardly talked there, but now that he's back with me he's saying everything i've ever taught him, and really is like we never had that time apart (incl...

Can IRNS eat Peppercorn and ginger?

Hi everyone =) I've got my cheeky parrot here who is stomping around my desk and pulled my teabag out of my chamomile and honey tea haha... But now I have chai tea and she's trying to get that teabag out too. So I was wondering, since there is ginger and pepper in there would that be bad? I know the...

Wow 27 months that's a loongggg time! Well, either way, my ringneck does pretty much all the different behaviours... Talks A LOT, sings dances, trills, bows... Does tricks!!! I taught her 'spin around' and 'jump' so far... Although she won't do it for my boyfriend but she'll listen to me (smart bird...

Re: Can IRN's eat smoked salmon?

I gave her a really really small bit and she chewed on it but decided to take it to my blue budgie (who she's in love with) as a gift.

Naturally, the budgie has no idea what is going on (does he ever? haha) - so the salmon ended up on the floor lol

Thanks everyone =) yeah she's a destructive one, give her 3 mins with a 10cm cinnamon stick and it's in a 3 metre radius on the floor hahahaha it's more a tasty toy... She loves the caramom pods because she likes to get out the lil seeds inside and flick them everywhere....she doesn't really like ba...

hey =D yeah, she was fine. She looked like batman, but she was fine =) So so so happy... I think the darkness of the ink really scared me. But she's fine. The avian vet I eventually got on to said that if it's water soluble it SHOULD be ok.... And it was... (I'm lucky that keekie has showers with me...

Re: IRN in love with Budgie

I have no idea =( I got my budgies about 2 years ago and then I got my IRN, and she can eat pretty much anything) I came home once to find she'd taken a felt tip pen out of my bag, opened it up and ate the ink - and she was FINE - black, but fine) So i think that in regards to bird diet, researching...

Sexing IRN

Hey everyone! My IRN is about 8-9 months old, and is copying EVERYTHING that i'm teaching her. So i'm confused, she's quite young, doesn' t have a ring (although I THINK I may see one coming, it's very feint). The lady I bought her from said she thought she was a girl but I don't mind either way.......

Re: Have I done the right thing

hey, Um probably not the best idea to put them together hey... If your 7 year old IRN is hand tamed - most likely he thinks he's part human haha.. Where as the avairy bird is WILD> so she will try to be the boss knowing full well that your 7 year old has no idea how to be a 'real' parrot. So yeah, i...

Re: my ARN they scare of my hands how do i tame them??

Hi! Well it takes a LONG time. Did you buy your birds hand raised/ tamed? And how old? If they're not hand raised/tame and young when you got them then it's highly unlikely they will ever be friendly with you. But if you did! Your birds are just a bit scared of you at the moment because they aren't ...

IRN in love with Budgie

hey guys and girls. I have a weird question here... It's about my 8 month old IRN who is now infatuated with my 1 year old male budgie. My IRN used to be very territorial when it came to her cage and play area. Never letting the budgies land on it etc. But lately she (or he) has been letting the two...

HELP!!!! IRN HAS EATEN INK!!!

hey guys - I just got home and my partner was not looking after my IRN I walked through the front door to find my usually green IRN covered from head to toe in felt tip pen ink... She has stolen a pen and taken the back off it and gotten the ink out and eaten it.... It's all through her mouth. My pa...

Can IRN eat cinnamon sticks? How about cardamom pods etc?

Hi all =) I have a 5 month old RN who eats pretty much anything I give her... But I was in the cupboard yesterday and noticed I have an abundance of bay leaves, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks etc and I was just wondering if she is allowed to chew on any of these? Also, I gave her some tuna in spring...

Re: Biting

Thanks for your response =) I have JUST moved house and for some really strange reason, my lil girl seems to really be happy with where we are. I know exactly how you feel =\ My IRN is 3 months old and was perfect when I got her. Now she will only step up and then she bites my finger REALLY hard. If I go anywhere near her she fluffs up. I don't understand, because she is always in the same room as me and I talk to her all day but she still ...

Re: Help!! My New IRN will only eat if I give her food by ha

Aww yay she is just eating straight mushy pellet mix now =D She seems to love it now, she even eats the mush that falls off her beak and onto her perch!! No more seed diet! I have put a big wild bird seed block in her cage (because she still loves seeds of course) to try and make her cage more invit...

She is eating pellet mush!! I am so happy. We are getting somewhere, it's great! I firstly gave her 70% mush, 30% seed, and now I am giving her 100% pellet mush and she is finally eating it.. Well the mushy bits she chooses hehe picky girl. I bought her a flavoured toy this evening, and let her chew...

Re: Help!! My New IRN will only eat if I give her food by ha

Thanks!! I tried crushing them up and then i let them soak into the grape juice so it was softer... She didn't fall for it at first, until she realised she wasn't getting the grape without the pellets on it =P So now she is at least trying the taste... The breeder had her on pellets, but not colourf...

Thank you greatly =) I will try with pretending to eat her pellets.. And will TRY not to fold with ONLY providing her with pellets for a day. Help!! My New IRN will only eat if I give her food by hand!!

Hey guys and girls =) My partner bought me a 13 week old hand-raised/tame IRL yesterday, and to get her to like me I gave her two sunflower seeds, a grape and some carrot by hand, but only if she walked to my hand first. Now I think she associates being able to eat with being with me, so she keeps t...
