Hi Clawnz I only had time to read a couple of the articles you posted and I'm now wondering if I misunderstood your position on diet. If so, I'm terribly sorry. In answer to the original question, I feed my birds mostly roudybush pellets and low carb veges. They also get some treats for training purposes and tiny bits of table food. We do not have a great range of pellets available here and this is the best I've found for my birds in my area. All avian vets...

I'm glad she's returned to normal. I just went to a webinar by Barbara Heidenreich on hormonal behaviour of parrots and it was really good. I can recommend it. Hi Timmee81 I don't know an awful lot about the development of IRNs. However, we got our first bird at 6 weeks (which with what I know now I believe was too young) and she was well and truly sitting up on perches by that stage. So I'm finding it concerning that your bird isn't able to perch yet... b...

Hi AJPeter I don't think you should touch her eggs or move/remove them as this may kick her back into laying. If she was attempting to masturbate, this could be a sign of her gearing up to lay some more. Hopefully she'll tire of the eggs herself. Janey is definitely showing more signs of returning t...

Hi AJPeter Good work on the diet :) Females with strong breeding desires can be difficult to work with. My views on biting have changed over the years. I'm no longer of the opinion to ignore it and let your bird keep biting you. I'm not saying it couldn't work but I'd prefer something else. I'd prefer to try for deeper understanding and communication between the bird and the human. Bites are one way t...

Hi Steve
Does your bird make any sounds that aren't too loud and are acceptable? You can start by rewarding your bird when s/he makes acceptable sounds. Take a look at this article for more information on this approach.

Since I haven't had any responses yet, thought I'd try to reframe my question. Not necessarily. I think that you should get a DNA sexing or a surgical sexing done if you want to be sure. Immature ringnecks can exhibit both male and female behaviours when they are young.

My blue female has a ring like that. At 2-3 years of age though your bird may not yet be mature and the ring may come next moult. If you do have two females please watch for any aggression as they mature. Separate them if necessary.
