I have already had an email and pictures and now I feel more content that I made the right choice. He has a young lad giving him plenty of attention and they have other birds in the house. It's very quiet here but now I think it was best for him.
After long thought and ill health I have found Gomez a new home, it may seem sudden but I have been trying to think more of him and more attention he could have. I have directed the new owners this way so I hope they will join and introduce themselves. I found it very difficult to give him up but I ...
My Mum has a 16 year old cockatiel which she though was a girl. Totes (it's name) says 'good girl' 'pretty girl' 'you are such a pretty pretty girl' ....to find it's a boy... the bird doesn't know any different and it became a bit of a laugh seeing as the cockatiel says all this in a cockney type ac...
You know I admire the beauty of the way they are made but when I see a spider every molecule in my body squishes and I have an overwhelming inner gut feeling that I want to RUN. I know they wont hurt me, I know they are more scared of me but all I wanna do is RUN... screaming slightly and peeing my ...
I think in that situation I'd pull them and hand-rear them to make sure they get the best start! There is lots of hand-rearing information on the board... good luck!!
Hi and Welcome! I'm guessing s/he's anywhere between 6-10 weeks old... my ringneck started eating by himself around 6.5 weeks old. You just really need to give him lots of time and patience so he can gain your trust. There are some techniques which can help him trust you more... I took my bird the t...
Awwww how cute!
As for the food spillage all babies do this... can't really be helped.
The only thing to do is to just give them a good wipe off round their beaks after a meal.
Well I'm in Holland so on the 5th Dec the Dutch have 'Sinterklaus' which is basically the same as the 25th, I guess yes that will be a white day! On the 25th I'll be in the UK with my Family.... I hope to have an easy drive there and hope to get snowed in while there so I can spend a bit more time.....
Whooooa! That's a lot of water.....!
You've probably seen this on my FB Pinkdevil but this is outside my house today and it's still dumping down!
It's currently -7 and I have to go out in it later BRRrrRRrRRrRRrRrrRrrrr!!
I always get mistaken for an Auzzie,
People find my accent hard to place but it's mainly a London accent wiv a tutch 'o Dutch n Greek thrown in for confusion lol!
He's a little sod.... I've been secretly watching him and he's been sliding down the curtains to the floor and terrorising the cat, the cats been getting up and moving and he runs after her and makes her move again!!! If he hears me coming he runs under his cage and pretends to look scared like my c...
Mine also makes noises like a whining puppy when I'm in the shower for some reason...? I don't mind but it starts my dog howling and I only notice when I turn the shower off... it's like an animal orchestra!
They can get stressed when going into a new environment but what you are describing sounds more like the start of a respiratory problem, I'd get him to a vet as soon as possible and get him checked out. Usually a IRN's nostril and beak area are dry and clean.
Good luck and keep us updated
I'm so sorry to hear about Munchie, he was so young!! Did you notice anything at all the night before..?
My bird is around the same age and I am so attached I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to him.
RIP Munchie!
About the biting fingers when you ask him to step up, I actually found that my FID (feathered kid) did the same but after a while I realised he wasn't biting he was actually balancing himself with his beak as he stepped up, because he was young he couldn't quite get his balance to stand on one leg w...
Hi and welcome... we'd love to see some pictures of "Homer" *giggles*
If it's any consolation mine is named 'Gomez' and I have no clue if it's male or female as yet either.... seems to act more like a male though.
Enjoy your stay!
My IRN is still young and their first molt comes roughly around 4/5/6 months of age, after this first molt I am more inclined to then say it goes by season.... so to be clear like Melika said "yes and no" lol!
Yes your right females do get a lighter ring, males get the very vivid black ring. To be honest I have no clue what sex Gomez is! :D My post is more about that I was always told any sign of a ring doesn't show till they are around two years of age and Gomez is just coming up for six months old so I ...
Normally a IRN gets it's ring around two years of age... has been known a little earlier. The thing is once they do have their ring it's almost impossible to tell how old they are. You have two beautiful healthy looking male birds, they seem to get along very well also. Two female maybe...!? This ti...
Yep unfortunately the pet shop owner didn't have a clue, you are the proud owner of two very beautiful blue males.
I hate pet shops as it is... half of them don't understand anything about the animals they are selling or how to look after them.
What a fabulous story and huge kudos to you and what you did to help Nikki... the difference is like day and night!
Keep up the great work and keep us posted!
