Re: 3 Times a Charm?
Well they're definitely going down again. Must be the crazy Tassie weather!
Pulled first clutch of chicks at 2 weeks, the 2nd clutch at 3 weeks. They've had 2 clutches of 5 so far, but I would imagine clutch 3 will be smaller. Guess I'll just have to wait and see!

3 Times a Charm?
Hello all,
This is my first season with IRN. I have pulled the 2nd clutch for the year for handraising, but the parents seem like they are preparing to go again. I was under the impression that IRN only go to nest twice a year (if you're lucky).
Is a 3rd clutch normal?

New to IRNs - Is this normal, will it get better??
I've just finished hand raising my first clutch of IRN. I have not raised them before, although I have raised many other species. They are ready for new homes now, and I've folded and started a relationship with one of the babies and I'm thinking of keeping him for myself. He's a lovely bird, will o...

What Colour are they & breeding results
Hi, A friend of mine just bought two IRN. The breeder told her they were Pastelblue Lacewings. A bit confusing though as they look totally different but are meant to be the same mutation??? *LOL* Being a complete newbie myself I thought I'd ask people more 'in the know'. Also, what would be the poss...

A skyblue lacewing (pallid)? A grey blue? I'm only guessing!!
Do you know what her parents were?

Re: Kaytee Exact or Roudybush Fomula 3
Due to having problems finding a quick sending supplier I started using the Vetafarm Neocare for my new 14day old Quakers - well it's fantastic!! They are putting on average 7 - 10g per day, their stools are lovely and it satisfies them between feeds. Brilliant! As an emergency food I had to use Avi...

Re: 2 Hens & 1 Cock
Thanks for your replies.
I thought there may be territorial issues with the females. I guess it's the type of situation you'd need a big aviary for to even attempt it.

2 Hens & 1 Cock
I was chatting to a breeder the other day and he told me that he has a number of cocks that will cover 2 hens at once both producing succesful clutches. Is this normal for IRNs? I know the male doesn't have a whole lot to do with the incubating and caring for young, but is it common for a male to se...

Re: My First Pair of IRN are coming tomorrow!!
It is - very busy. One little useless tidbit that has come about from my research is the markup pet shops make - I never realised it was so much!! I went to a couple of local pshops just to see what they'd give me for the type of birds I'm breeding (not that I want to sell to them, but just to give ...

My First Pair of IRN are coming tomorrow!!
It's taken 3 weeks to get the aviaries set up but they're ready to go. The IRNs are coming tomorrow and the Cockatiels on Tuesday - it's all very exciting!! I finally decided on a Blue Turquoise Pallid Hen and a Blue Turquoise Cock. Thinking of expanding in about 6 months maybe with Albinos to get c...

Re: Kaytee Exact or Roudybush Fomula 3
That's really interesting, thank you. I've often seen temps of 39+ recommended, but I usually feed at baby formula (human) temp - warm on the wrist but not hot. 40 is way to hot for a baby, if it feels hot on my wrist, imagine how hot it would be in the crop!

Re: Kaytee Exact or Roudybush Fomula 3
Thanks for that! I've seen the Parrot Rearing Food but not the Neocare - I'll have to go have a look. I didn't like the Parrot food because of the meat content. I don't agree with feeding granivores meat - insects yes, but not meat. I had a look at a site selling it and the Neocare doesn't have any ...

Re: Kaytee Exact or Roudybush Fomula 3
Thanks Imran! Kaytee is REALLY hard to find in Australia. The main importer no longer buys it so it comes in dribs and drabs through individuals so it's also expensive. Roudybush is still not common, but easier to find and quite a bit cheaper. Trouble is you hear so much good stuff about one brand, ...

Kaytee Exact or Roudybush Fomula 3
Which do you think is the better forumula for hand rearing? I've heard good things about both products. Do either have common problems associated with them? I read on one website that they no longer recommended Roudybush because of a problem with it, but didn't go into detail about what it was (frus...

Re: confusion re; good food/bad food
It looks to me from the lists I've been reading that, as a general rule of thumb, Fruit seeds are taboo, vegetable seeds are OK. Would that be an accurate summation? If your 'vegetable' has seeds - it's a fruit regardless of what category we put it in the supermarket. :) The only seeds that I know ...

Has anyone had any experience with Wombaroo Granivore hand raising formula?
I love their products for wildlife, but never used it as a food for chicks.
Anyone have any luck or bad experiences with it?

Any Breeders in Southern Tasmania?
I'm looking to purchase 2 mature breeding birds around 3-5 years old. Any blue variation and will consider green split blue for one of the birds. To be picked up in 2 -3weeks (waiting for the aviary to be finished). Good home assured. Southern Tasmania only (to allow viewing). My email prue77@iprimu...

How Common is Psittacosis among IRNs?
We've had one case of Psittacosis passed onto a family member through a young cockatiel that was purchased from a pet shop which resulted in hospitalisation and about 12 weeks to recover (the family member that is, the cockatiel died). Understandably, we're all a bit wary of Psittacosis now. Althoug...

The Genetic Calculator
Has anyone ever found a site that helps decode the genetic calculator for the layperson? Some are pretty obvious - grey, violet, blue, cinnamon, cleartail etc... But what is Dark - is that a Normal green? What is edge dilution (white areas on wings?) NSLino? Dilute - is that just any pale colour suc...

or the correct description is blue cinnamon pallid(?). I've googled it but I keep getting pictures of cinnamons and blues but not combined - or at least not labelled as such!

I'm unfamiliar with this mutation - what would be the result
I've tried the genetic calculator, but can't get it to work - not sure what to put where!! what would be the likely result of these crossings: pastel blue lacewing x pastel blue lacewing pastel blue lacewing (h) x blue lacewing (c) What other mutations would be compatible with the pastel blu...
