Bird Bathing

I think one of the greatest joys of living with birds is watching them delight in a bath or a shower. They get so thoroughly into it, that we feel great about providing it! No wonder our bonds just get stronger and stronger!

Bird Bathing

The members of my bird club always turn on the vacuum when teaching any bird about bathing. My parrotlet likes to splash in a bath dish just his size and dislikes spraying. My IRN, Yinka, loves to be sprayed almost daily. Make sure you put WARM water in the sprayer. Even hot water is consideraly coo...

I really hope my female irn gets to be as comfortable as Besso! I won Yinka at a local bird show, and she was friendly in the cage, but in getting her home I realized that she hadn't had the attention she should've had. Working hard on getting her to not fear my hands. She talks pretty well, was abo...

.88 toys

Well, I rushed to my Walmart on Monday and found the boxes. There was not the same variety, and I looked in ALL the boxes. Got a good many though. Thanks for the tip! Do any of you make toys yourselves?

This will be quite a challenge, but worth it! First he must get really used to his (new?) cage and house. Don't go near him yet if it disturbs him. When he is calm with you in the room start going nearer his cage. When he accepts you near his cage you can start the treats. It might be a favorite fru...

I feed my birds pellets, Roudybush(parrotlet) and Zupreem(IRN) daily in the mornings. In their treet cup they get fruit or home-baked birdy bread. In the evenings they get veggies, cooked or raw in their treat cup or the birdy bread if they didn't get any in the morning. On the weekends they get see...

Sorry about the quail chicks!

Since it is Christmas, we took pictures of each bird in the Christmas tree, and then shared pomegranates after they played with safe boxes and wrapping.

Merry Christmas everyone!

My IRN Yinka can be sneaky, too. She knows she isn't supposed to climb onto Tiki's (parrotlet who will bite her toes) cage, but she waits until our backs are turned. Sometimes it seems as if she is stalking him, but she is also anxious to see what's in his treat cup, even though it has always been i...

Spent most of the day creating a large perching/playing tree. We had saved a fruit tree (loquat) that had fallen down too many times to bother with bracing up again. Trimmed it well, braced it in a large pot, and decorated it with toys. We placed it on the lanai. Yinka LOVES it. Of course she had to...

Yinka spent an hour on my shoulder today, and she was very good. She is still afraid of my hand, especially in her cage. If she is outside the cage, she finally lets me catch up with her and steps up. If I hold her in my hands, she objects and complains, but doesn't bite. Of course I've only had her...

I haven't found a good way for my parrotletto enjoy a bath or shower. He seems intent on avoiding it altogether. Dishes of water haven't attracted Yinka either, but yesterday she began to enjoy warm water from a spray bottle. She would back away, but come back for a little more and flap her wings ju...

Eye pinning

Hi, jj here. My irn pins her eyes if she is angry or frightened, and my instinct has always that a bite is the next action. I talk quietly to her for a while, and she calms down. My friend's quaker aways pins his eyes right before a bite.

Rupert, I'm enjoying the information you're getting! Thanks everyone for the wing clipping info as well as the clicker training and resources. When I got my Yinka, her(?) nest mate was also being raffled, and he already had an obviously male neck ring and wasn't as friendly. I do realize that if Yin...

You're right SpEEdie, the yellow headed, yellow tailed irn is really beautiful! Thanks for sending the picture. I was only aware of the green and blue irns. I am also a newbie, and have had my green irn since October. I too stumbled on this site while researching. I am lucky enough to belong to the ...

Thanks for the responses! I am able to have Yinka out of her cage an hour every morning before work, my husband is home most of the day to say hi as he passes their cages, and then she gets a lot of time out in the evenings. She is content to mostly perch on her play gym and play with toys with inte...

Hi! New to the forum, with an Indian Ringneck that I won!

Yinka is wonderful! She is about 6 months old, and getting fond of us. I would love to find a source of VCR tapes of parrots to entertain her and Tiki, my parrotlet.
