My IRN's a poop machine!
Wow, it's been eons since I posted on here! I miss you guys! Don't think I've forgotten about you! hehe. Been so busy at work! But getting back to Ruby, he's been pooping like crazy! This has been going on ever since we brought him home and he seems ok... but lately, I've come to realize it's gettin...

Hah, don't remind me! I used to be blonde, and believe me, I don't miss getting called "Hey Blondie!" by every construction worker, delivery boy, and drive-by renegade I passed. Besides, I feel more grounded with darker hair. Kudos to you, though for keeping it real! You can always get a blonde wig,...

I'm such a freak when it comes to letting Ruby play with anything. I guess because my last birdie died when she was only ten months old . If I hear something snap or break off, I have to inspect it to make sure he didn't actually do it and has nothing in his mouth. He's starting to really chew up th...

Another great toy idea!
I had some of these colorful plastic barettes by Goody lying around, (the snap-close kind you see little girls wearing in their hair sometimes)... Ruby loves them and chews'em up! I guess cuz they have a lot of texture and color to them. It might be fun to close them so they'll have fun re-opening t...

It's amazing how you can see them smiling even though they have beaks. That's so great Mikaela! I'm going to try that with Ruby once he stops being so scared of my fingers. I've been trying the treat thing, trying to make him come to me for it, but still no luck he stands there looking at it, expect...

Ruby's new Pom-Pom Perch!
I decided Ruby's cage was getting a tid bit too cluttered with dangly things, so I took out the swing, and hung it from a hook on my ceiling, with a braided rope I made with scrap yarn (yes, aside from being obsessed with my bird, I'm an obsessive compulsive knitter as well! If there's medication fo...

So far I've been having some success! By the end of the night Ruby was stepping up on my hand without any problem, although my hands are quite sore! I tried getting him used to my fingers by feeding him an appleslice between them. He ate from them, but still wanted nothing to do with them. Whenever ...

I don't know what's up Ruby's bum... but lately he's been getting progressively mean! He doesn't seem to like fingers at all. Whenever I hold my hand out for him to step up, his feathers puff up, eyes flash, lunges at me like I've never seen before! This is not like him at all! I almost want to say ...

Ruby's actually very much attracted to red. My dog has a red bandana on, and he chases him around the apartment because of it. Poor dog is scared poopless of him! Lol I tried putting Ruby ontop of his back, and he went right for the bandana, and tried nibbling on his ears (not hard tho) hehe. My dog...

I gave Ruby his first shower tonight, since we brought him home last week... I never saw a bird look more Euphoric underneath the water! And kept making cute little "Ahhh!" noises. t'hehe. He stayed on my shoulder the whole time, and even let me give him a little nose snuggle & head scratch. He ...

Ruby doesn't seem to mind red... though maybe pink. I'm not sure on this one yet. hehe ADDICTED to the mirror though. I sometimes have to take it out of his cage sometimes because he doesn't budge from the same spot. His favorite spot now is on top of my lamp, though because it bounces and spins aro...

Can't we all just get along? glad to see it's all worked out though. no fighting/no biting I've decided that if Ruby takes a chunk out of my cheek for real next time I'm selling his precious beak on the black market to pay for corrective surgery. ;-P nah. jk! jk! Great advice, from everyone! I've ju...

Mikaela, you're filled with such great advice! Everyone for that matter! I think I ought to back off from Ruby for a while, and give him some space. Thought lately he's been decidedly content riding on my shoulder the past few days. I took him down to do some laundry last night and stayed perfectly ...

Love Bites or Jealousy??? ACK!
So I was talking on the phone with Ruby on my shoulder. I made a kissing noise, and he LUNGED and nipped at my face! He didn't break the skin but it was hard enough that I now have this mini vampire bite on my cheek. This afternoon, my mom leaned into kiss him, too, while sitting on my shoulder and ...

Keeping him amused?
So far Ruby's doing really well, adjusting to his new home... but he's still affraid of the new toys I bought him. I'm introducing them gradually, but in the meantime, I think he's starting to feather pick out of boredom. I keep the TV on all the time for him, play music, talk and keep him on my sho...

If your baby can only fly a short distance, that should be cool. Thing is, Irns take off like eagles... very strong flight so it doesnt take them long to get to a high rate of speed. Windows and toilets are your biggest threat. Close the seat and the blinds and no worries! The are suckers for food....

Thanks Carly! I'll definitely give that trick a try! When I first brought him home, while he was sitting on my shoulder, he flew off and landed ontop of the lapshade while the light it was still on! I quickly got up and turned the lamp off. He wasn't harmed or anything, but it's his new favorite spo...

By giving it alot of attention and making it want to be with you. Flight, although it is majestic to watch, is not very safe for a bird. One run in with a window and you'll have a broken neck. One person leaving a ceiling fan on and Boom, dead bird. Hate to be so blunt but no other way to put it. I...

Hey everybody! This is Ruby! I adopted him last week. He's a 1 and a half year old Lutino, born in Hawaii on Valentine's day! His previous owners couldn't look after him anymore, but they gave him a really good home and trained him very well. Sweetest bird... though not very cuddly. No biting either...
