and just to make life more challenging, Magellan hates the sight of a broom -- only thing that makes him squawk and scold. Wish you could know what had happened to teach them these odd behaviors (he does not mind the vacuum, but everyone else hates it)

Definitely not ruined --- they are far too smart to burn their bridges <g>. Suspect the best remedy is the "tincture of time", as one of my colleagues used to prescribe, and lots of patience. We are rooting for you!
