Hi all,
I don't know if it was accident or purposeful dunking, but my new "tiel" Birdicles had what remained of his cuttlebone in his water dish....what an exotic odor it created!!!

Mik, So sorry to hear your news. Your son seems to be handling things like a man, but more importantly, like a decent human being. My hat is off to you and your husband for raising him as such. I read somewhere that you are never truly adult until a parent has passed, I never gave it much thought un...

Here's To Steve.
Hi all, I never dreamed I would be making a post like this but here goes: Here's to you Steve Irwin, you lived a life that many of us frankly envied and you will be sorely missed. If it's any consolation, you left us as you were doing some of the things you loved to do; no lingering, no long final d...

Laughing
Hi Sue,
My "tiel" Birdius has a positively maniacal laugh It was really funny when I took him back to visit with the breeder and with a crowd present, he left off a cackle worthy of Vincent Price!

Hi and thanks for your posting. I'm happy that Mikaela opened this area for mutual support. I've been through the loss of several pets and it sure helps to have someone to share the grief, especially a community like this one.

Mik, I would enjoy helping members put their fids in their best light. If anyone is interested, email your best shots in original resolution ( if there is movement blur or the picture is out of focus, I can't use it) and give me a week. If you need a floral background shot, I have a bunch I took in ...

I used Roxio Photo Suite for the picture you see on my signature line. I hope to do a better avatar in the near future. I used to use Paint Shop Pro when it was a shareware offering and found it to be similar to Adobe Photo Shop. It's amazing what you can do once you conquer the learning curve! Skip...

Hi again, That Great Dane pup looks just like one my flight instructor had Funny story: the airport sponsored an air show and my flight instructor was helping. His dog was with him and he was needed elsewhere, so he tied the dog to the nosewheel of a little Cessna 150 with her water bowl and feed di...

Hi, Magoo stopped biting about three weeks ago. I was really concerned because my wife told me she was going to stop interacting with Magoo altogether, but since then he has been behaving much better with her and I think she is unconsciously reinforcing the good behavior. Oops, almost forgot to tell...

I'm sorry to hear your news about Rio. I think Rio's mom (and I use that term loosely) is delusional about her son. It's really unfortunate that Rio will end up suffering. If its any consolation, I do believe in Karma - what goes around comes around and I think it will come around in spades for that...

Hi Sue and Nila
Nila is a very handsome bird! I just got the DNA results back for Magoo and He's a boy!!! (was that redundant or what????) I guess I'll have to call him Quincy Magoo!
By the way, is that a Hybiscus flower he is munching on?

Hi Sue and Nila
Thanks for the reply! I really wish Birdius and Magoo were pals, but unfortunately, the minute they're together, they start snapping and lungeing at each other.(see the message threads under training and behavior, subject: Getting along. At any rate, it seems that everyone I've met on this forum has...

Getting along
Hi, I am happy both with Birdius, my "tiel" and Magoo, my IRN, but they don't seem to like each other. Every time the get together, they both get combative (open beaks and lungeing) and I have to separate them Should I let them settle this on their own, keep them separated, or try something else? I ...

Magoo started out quiet too
Hi. When we first brought Magoo home we thought something was wrong because he made no sounds. After a few days as he became more comfortable, he started replying to my "tiel"s whistles with a"caw-caw-caw" call and now he is making a variety of sounds almost like a jungle recording. Give Suki a litt...

Hi, As a new bird-dad, I was anxious to learn all I could about IRNs. Thank God I found you out there! My wife and I got our first bird "Birdius" (my wife latinizes everything!) by accident. I was out looking for crickets for our leopard gekkos and the place I usually buy them was out, so I wandered...

Hi again,
It now seems that when in the cage, Magoo lunges at fingers placed next to the cage, but he doesn't bite, he just taps them with his beak! My wife and I decided to avoid flinching and show no reaction when he does this and it seems to be paying off! In the meantime, we got him a carrier and have sta...

New IRN very territorial
Hi, My wife and I got Magoo, a blue IRN about a week ago and he has started to bite out at any hand coming close to the lower portion of his cage. He steps up just fine from the perches in the upper section of his cage and he is a sweet bird when out of the cage, but my wife is concerned that his bi...
