Re: Digging and crooning
Your little girl is in mating mode! She's displaying how pretty she is for you and how much she wants you for a mate ... that is the head back, crooning business. The digging in the cage is also mating behavior. Nesting behavior, actually. She may lay you a couple eggs (mine has for t...

Re: Male or Female???
I see no evidence of any kind of ring ... I would say you have a girl!! If your fid is about 1 1/2 yr old, you should see SOME evidence of a ring going to come in ... looks like a girl to me :D But without knowing the age for sure, you can just wait for at least a year to see if a ring develops, or ...

Story of Rainbow Bridge
The Rainbow Bridge She opened her eyes ... as if she woke from a dream. All around her were the sights and sounds of the most beautiful place she had ever seen. A tropical paradise, with lush green foliage and trees of every kind, stretching as far as she could see towards the most beautiful blue sk...

When I got my Nala, it took me six months to get her to trust me enough to not take a chunk out of me!!! And I worked with her nearly every day for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. I thought she'd NEVER be nice. I took so many bites ... :( But once she finally decided she loved me, now she is my lover bi...

Yup! Old clothes is the best answer! :D Also, if you DO have her on you just before you are leaving the house, have someone do a 'poop check' for you ... you may get to the grocery store and someone will point out the fact that you have bird poo down the back of your shirt! LOL (guess how I know tha...

I give her a 'hug' too, giving her a little squeeze around her whole body ... she just coos at me ... she is such a lover bir...

Nala's nails were getting way too long and I ended up clipping them. I clipped one too short and poor baby was bleeding! I had flour all ready just in case of this scenario and it did stop it. Flour works! I felt so bad I didn't mean to clip it so short ... happens sometimes when they are wiggling a...

I was given an IRN because it was 'mean'. Well they weren't kididng ... BUT, I worked with her every day for 6 months, taking her into the bathroom (with the door closed and toilet closed) and letting her come out of her cage, then trying to handle her. It took SIX MONTHS working with her every day ...

I have a female IRN ... not sure how old, but I do know she is a mature female, she laid 4 eggs for me last year (no male in sight here!) .. she is the sweetest thing, very jealous of ME with the other fids in the house. She doesn't talk, but that's OK, I love her and she obviously loves me! Don't k...

Nala Laid a!n Egg
Nala laid #3 today. I don't have a male so there's no chance of babies, but I know if she continues to lay it isn't healthy for her. How do I get her to stop?? There's no nesting material in her cage, no nest box, no male IRN (I do have 2 male [I think] quakers and a male [I think] sun conure) but t...

i have a couple of questions
I know my IRN is a female, no ring around her neck, but I am seeing something about a back head tilt... do the females do that when they are feeling lovey? She also does this kind of purr/chirp thing. I'm assuming that also is an IRN trait. It has taken from February to October to get her to come to...

Bird owns you, clips today. As far as the latching on and all of that, dont take that personally... he was simply using his beak as a third hand because you made your shoulder unavailable and he was trying to land/perch. He didnt intentionally attack you, I assure you. I do know how it feels though...

Re: Gloves not a good tool to use for step-up training.
This maybe a an old legend that may have little merit but I have heard from numerous long standing bird owners that using gloves is not good for training purposes and are generally bad to have on when handling birds. The only time gloves are needed are when handling predatory birds with wicked stro...

New IRN Member ... Need HELP!!!
I finally found a forum devoted to these lovely birds -- Now I need help! I have had Nala for about 6 months or so. She is such a crabby beetch I can hardly work with her! I have to use a glove to get her out of her cage, (she bites the hand!) but as soon as she sees me even pick up the glove, she j...
