R.I.P Echo

Ok... so about 10 minutes (9:40pm) ago my 7 week old Cockatiel, Echo, passed away. Neither my girlfriend or I have no idea why, but i came home today at 5pm and Echo was just sitting in her little homemade nest, and he had no balance or no personality left in him, he looked so sad. Mandy and i spent...

lol... Charlie does this on her perch. Grabs hold of the perch with her feet, then flaps her wings non-stop for like 10 second intervals.... i THINK she's doing it for like exercise? Because she does it after being asleep or just relaxing a lot.. maybe strechting or waking up her muscles... somethin...

Brand new cockatiel!

Hey guys, well... my girlfriend and i were bored, so we went to a nice big bird pet store... aaaaaand to cut a long story short, we came home with a 6 week old cockatiel to add to our lutino ring neck! Just a quick couple of things as when we bought Charlie she was about 3 months of age... 1. Echo (...

Sorry mate, havent come across ths before... Hopefully someone on here who breeds birds might have some insight? But, my advise would be just to hang in there and keep trying, if your birdy is still new chances are he isnt completely comfortable with hands just yet.. So keep being pushy and hopefull...

Just keep trying to pat / step up all the time.. Thats what i did with Charlie.. and she sooned figured out that i wasnt trying to hurt her and she now LOVES pats and tickles. Just expose your RN to your hand everyday and get her used to it!

For future ease, take note and ask questions on how the guy does it. We have just started clipping out own pets wings... It's quite easy once you've seen how to do it... Just be careful not to cut to deep into the wings because of veins.

Peace

First up, congrats on taking in a IRN... Especially rescueing one from a shelter! Kind person. Ok.. Basically, it sounds like she has been a little traumatised in her past, also obviously never had that close connection. If she has moved around a lot, she will feel that only in the cage is she safe....

Thats true about the bluffing... With Charlie she is still trying the same tricks on me as she was when i thought she was 'bluffin' its just that now, i know how to deal with it, and 'trick' her into doing what *i* want, and make her think it was her idea! Don't be worried about bluffing, just enjoy...

haha sounds firmiliar. The only problem is, Charlie isnt clipped anymore, so as soon as i put her on the ground, she flies straight back to me haha. Any ideas on dealing with stuff like that?

how do i tell a bird off?

Hey guys, now.. First of all, i have a great relationship with my RN, and i never yell at her or anything. BUT, surely there has to be a way for me to get a msg across that something is a no no? PLS(!!!) help with the biting!

Ok so my Ringneck is about 8 months old.. Charlie steps up when he wants... i can sort of pat him (when he's not looking) etc.. but he loves trying to bite me.. Now... Charlie is ok with taking food from my hands.. he also, climbs from his cage and up my legs to be near me.. so he isnt shy.. How is ...

My bird should be in the olympics!

Charlie has a fascination with throwing things. If he has food in his container.. he'll pick it up and throw it out... If there's toys in his cage, he'll pick em up and throw em around... Then when he comes and plays on my desk with me, he'll pick up paper, pens, rulers and walk to the edge of the d...

Bed for your bird

Just a quick question.. Does anyone have one of those "bird beds"? If you can't picture what im talking about, they look like a tent, and hang from them top of cage, looks pretty cosy for a bird, as its getting pretty cold in Melbourne! Im planning on buying one, but would like some feedback first!!...

Hey guys!! My IRN, Charlie, got given a mirror with a bell attached to the bottom of it. I've heard mixed opionons on mirrors and birds..
Can any one shed some light?
Cheers!
