Re: Very aggressive 10 week old irn
Oh man, this sounds like my Ollie! I got him when he was almost 4 months and he had been handfed, but just not handled much at all. Luckily, he has a buddy Marcel who was slightly more tame, and so I think he learned by observing Marcel. But I hear you on the aggression! Ollie would literally fly to...

Re: We've come a long way – but we've still got a long way to go
You've had your bird a few more months than I've had mine, but it sounds like you're working the right way. Mine were babies and handfed, but not hand tame AT. ALL. We've built a good relationship though over the past 11 months. You've accomplished a lot more training than I have! I will say that my...

Re: How do I tame this young scared IRN?
Go slowly. Be patient. Sit next to the cage and talk to the bird; let it get used to you. Eventually, you might try to lure it over to accept food from your hand through the cage bars. When it eagerly comes to you to get food through the bars, try then opening the door and presenting the food from t...

Re: HELP!! My 2 baby birds 5 weeks old scared of me. What can i do??
Hi, I just wanted to share my personal experience in case it's helpful at all. I got my two IRNs when they were almost 4 months old (and weaned). They had been handfed by their breeder, but beside that, had not been handled much at all and were INCREDIBLY terrified of me. They would flee to the fart...

Re: Baby biting absolutely everything for seemingly no reason
I totally sympathize with this. My boys weren't really tame when I got them at 4 months and it took a while to build trust with them. They also have both always been "nibblers"...sometimes it would really just be harmless nibbles (I've been observing that this behavior tends to be connecte...

Re: First ever Parrot !
Agreed about avoiding the apple seeds. My boys also love all peppers and devour the flesh and seeds I scrape from the inside of squash. Keep on trying lots of different fruits and vegetables--variety is good for nutrition. Definitely no avocados though if you weren't already aware, and also avoid on...

Re: Attacking phone
Ha! My birds are also incredibly suspicious of my phone. Maybe it's an IRN thing? I'm a true millenial so it's not even like I'm talking on it that much.... Ollie is mostly indifferent to it, but Marcel will spot it from a mile away and just wants to chew on it.It doesn't seem to be an attack ...

Re: New arrived IRN behavior
Hello, congrats on your new baby! I have two boys, so I don't have the problem so much about them being alone/lonely....however, I wanted to chime in that I don't cover them at night. I live in an apartment, so I do close the shades so the lights from outside don't shine in as strongly, but they do ...

Re: Need help with Rio.
I got my boys when they had already been weaned (at about 4 months) and they weren't hand tame in the least, despite having been hand-fed. I think they had been well cared for, but in an aviary with lots of birds, they just hadn't had enough regular human contact. I did my best to be patient with th...

Stepping up and biting
I just picked up my two babies last Monday (5 days ago). They are about 4.5 and 4 months old--the blue 4.5 month one (Marcel) is a BIT more tame than the green 4 month (Ollie). Although they seem healthy and playful, they're very wary and not very tame. I think it's because, despite being well-cared...

Will be picking up my new baby soon!
I'm very excited to have found a green baby ringneck, whom I will be picking up at the end of this month when he's weaned! This will be my first time with an IRN; I grew up with parakeets and bought a baby senegal--Mango--as a teenager (who ended up bonding strongly with my dad, and still lives happ...
