Mating behaviour

Post by Janet »

Can someone explain this to me? I have two beautiful lutinos who were born in October, 2007. They are nowhere near reaching sexual maturity. The one I think is a boy (because he does boy things) has no sign of a ring yet.

HOWEVER, for some time now, Flossie (the girl bird) has been thinking about becoming a mother. She hides under the frill on the loungechair, makes funny little nesting noises and attacks anyone who comes near. She comes out to offer herself to the boy who is now jumping on her and mating (it looks like he is doing the real thing).

Aren't they too young????? When they are back in their big cage with the other two IRNs, they seem OK although Flossie is spending a bit more time by herself and not interacting with Bird (the boy lutino). At other times, she is quite snuggly with Bird.

When interacting with me, Bird is still OK but is a bit more interested in Flossie. He still talks to me and gives me parrot kisses. Flossie is very standoffish and I have some bite injuries, similar to those I used to have when she went through her bluffing stage.

Is this just adolescence or am I dealing with the real thing?

The one you think is a boy, you should give
it one more year to have your final say if its
a male or female. They could breed at an ea
rlier age, wen you walk around your house
make sure to not step on any eggs.
