hey, i'm new here.
anyway, i would like to get a male indian ringneck as a pet. i've got a cage some food etc.
i'm wondering how the best way is to bring him home the easiest, shold i use a carry box or j use what the pet shop gives you? and when i bring him home and stick him in his cage should i cover up the cage with a towl to calm him? and at what time after i've brought him home should i start interacting with him?
cheers, Eric
edit: does colour effect the ringnecks eye-sight? i've heard about it but never knew if it was true or not.
new bird owner?

well I would think if you want a pet, you would be buying a handraised baby, so the bird will be very familiar with humans. A box that the shop or breeder gives you for travelling will be good. When you get the baby home, I would place him/her straight into the cage, place food and water in. Keep the cage near where you are, so you can talk and watch how s/he settles in. If the bird is handraise you shoujld be able to socialise with it from the beginning. Keep handeling every day to keep it use to human contact.
If the bird is not hand raised thats a totally different ball game. Settling in time is very important.
Just my opinion and experiences.
Also if you are wanting a male, you will have to have proof of DNA testing if its a young bird.
Welcome and good luck

well 3 - 6 month old can still be a handraised bird. If it isn't you may have your work cut out for you as it could be rather wild, parent imprinted, especially if it hasn't had any human contact.
Just trying to find out what you are going for so we can advise on how to and when to begin handeling your new baby (and I consider 3-6 months still a baby )

new bird
Hi, When I got my birds they were about 3 months old. They had been hand raised and were happy to sit on me. It took them no time at all to bond with me. They are not very interested in hanging out with anyone else although they sometimes will climb up onto my husband. I hope you love your new bird as much as I love my four.
