please help,
my little friend Jerry is only 6 months old now and he's beautiful. but I am a bit worried about him. instead of having a smooth looking red beak, he has a red beak but there are 2 whitish flakes and now he has a flake on the hook on his beak. I am worried about this, is it a diet thing? we feed him heaps of fresh fruit and veg and seeds. he has calcium blocks to eat and stuff. should i be worried?
Also, he has a problem going in his cage. whenever we are home, he is out of the cage, but when we go out he is supposed to go in his cage. but the thing is he seems to know that we ae going out, and so wont go near us when we try to catch him to put him in his cage. he is very tame, but also very smart and knows that he's going to end up in his cage eventually. some times it can take half an hour to catch him! how can we train him to go in his cage?

I think if you only put him back in the cage when you go out - then hes going to know for sure that youre going out if he has to go back in. Maybe try putting him on for an hour or so during the day? Make it random though.

As for the beak, im not sure, sorry.

What type of perch's do you have, If there from outside you better make sure you washed it or mites will come on the bird. Get some pictures of your bird with the flake....

Yea make it random timing, Put the bird inside the cage an hour a few before you go out.

I have since taken the little fella to the vet. he reckons that its not mites, but its just because the air is so dry where we live (we live in the desert) its drying his beak out. So he advised us to add a couple of drops of linseed oil to his seeds and since then his beak has looked alot better.

Oh that's great, i know that IRN'S originated from
India & some parts of Africa. They love rain & mist.

Tray choosing a word like go home and when you put him back in the cage give him a treat. Eventually he will realize that when he goes home he is going to get a treat.

As for the beak I would take him to the vets.
