i have three 7-8 week old Indian ringnecks and i was planning on keeping 2, so when im not home they can keep each other company, now I'm thinking if i keep 2 they might both be males/females I'm not planning on breeding them as I've already got a breeding pair, just want them to keep each other company during the day, any opinions on if i should keep one or 2 ? thanks
I would probably keep all three. Are you going to keep the 1/2 inside. If you put it inside I would only keep 1 but if you put both outside I would keep 2.
depends if you are wanting them tame, as a pet i think. Advice i was given was if you wanted to train and have as tame pet to only have one. But if you decide on keeping two then get the DNA test done so you get two the same.
My personal opinion is that birds should have another birdie friend. It helps them remember they are birds and gives them a constant companion. I do acknowledge though that taming two can be more difficult. Are they already tame? We have two that are tame. Both were handraised but we started with one and got the second one twelve months later. The second bird took longer to bond to us. I wouldn't be without either of them and they get along well together so I'm really happy with our arrangement.
If you decide to keep two, I would recommend keeping two males but if you don't have two males, then keep a male and female. Generally, two females will not get along during breeding season.
I think its important for them to socialize and have a friend when your not home. Yes it will be more work training but you wont have a lonely feathered friend.
