Post by claire31 »

Hi introducing Ollie our 11 week old ringneck been with us for a week seems to be settling in ok eating, bathing and socialising with us well he came handraised from a pet store where he was used to lots of attention. We live in Brisbane Australia but are a little concerned re the state of his beak is there anything we can do to help clear it up dont know why its like this and is this normal.

Hi Claire

You haven't explained what's wrong with the beak in this thread.

Congrats on your little guyM

You need to upload photos to a photo sharing site eg.flickr, then embed them or link to them in the post.

Our bird's beaks have scratches on them but I wouldn't describe them as scabs... Posting the photo is probably the best bet.

Good luck.

Hi Ellie
Still cant work out how to get a photo in this box but the link opens to his pic i hope. His beak looks a little better today so am wondering if its going to heal up by itself. If you can get the pic open Ellie maybe you will have some handy advice

That does not look normal. At the very least I would think he might need antibiotics. I would go to the vet.

I go to Brisbane Bird Vet http://www.brisbanebirdvet.com.au/

They're definitely not cheap but he knows his stuff.

There may be other avian vets in Brisbane but none that I know of.

Best wishes.

Did he come with the injury or has it happened since?

I had a bird with a similar injury who has since healed. Along with cream from the vet ( I use Ron Woodhouse) I added cod liver oil to the diet. Huge difference!

Hi Dare2b
He came with it from the pet store they couldnt tell us why his beak was like that!! it got worse the first week but since posting here has improved slightly its definitely clearing up and the main mark is getting smaller, how did you add cod liver oil to your birds diet. We are new to bird keeping so any advice is truly welcome.
Where is the vet Ron Woodhouse located we live Regents Park.
Thanks
Claire

Ron is on waterworks road Chermside. He specializes in birds only.

I mix a cod liver capsule through their food, makes a huge difference!

Good luck!
