Just some questions for you to answer :D

Post by HayleyJade99 »

I have a few questions just to ask about these birds.. :) im very fascinated by them so i just want to ask a few.

Anyway..
I was wondering how long does it take for baby irn's to get there full eye color,
my birds have just started to change theres now, and im extremely excited to see them.
Another question is i have a brother, who has 2 irn's. My blue ringneck is from the same clan as they are, but they don't seem to like him. We got my blue (Cookie) and his yellow (Honey) at the same time, and a week later he got another green one (Hine). I always take out Cookie as he is my bird, but leave Hine And Honey because they arent mine. My brother attends school so he hasn't got the same amount of time to spend with them as i do...

When i place my cookie at the top of his/her play area, then take out Hine and Honey, they begin to walk over and somewhat attack cookie. We just want to know if they are somehow jealous that Cookie gets more attention, or is it just a behavior to determine the sex of the bird. We were told by the breeder that female's are more aggresive then the boys.. and the two Hine and Honey seem to like eachother, and regurgitate food to eachother. However, in some extent you can put Hine and Cookie together, but i can't trust them alone.

Also, i'm planning on teaching my bird some tricks, whats the best and easiest tricks for them to learn?

Well thats all for now,
thanks for your time.

I'd recommend starting with the turnaround:
See http://www.indianringneck.com/forum/vie ... und#p65327

I've got videos of most of the tricks my birds do at:

I find that tricks serve to bond you with your bird and give them cognitive stimulation... so I think it's great to try to teach them tricks.

I'm currently trying to teach them to distinguish between colours... I think it's going to work... but not 100% convinced yet!

I love Barbara Heidenreich's videos on training your parrot (the first DVD is my favourite).

A lot of people like to use Clicker Training... so this is something you might like to investigate.

Happy training!

Ellie.
