Success!
Well after a dud clutch of 4 eggs first up I had almost given up hope of any young ones this year. I checked the nest tonight, where mum was having another shot at it, and sitting on another 4, it turns out 3 of them were fertile!
1 has fully hatched, and the other 2 were knocking on the door, their beaks showing through the shell.
Happy days!
Not sure why they misfired first up - this has happened 2 years in a row, but ah well it's still better than none!
Cheers, Tim.

Congrats, grampa!!
Re: Success!
LOL @ Grampa! I suppose I am!
Just checked them earlier, all 3 doing great, crops nice and full, all warm. Will keep checking them every now and then just in case the smallest one doesn't get left behind. I'm all set up in case I have to intervene. I have learned lots from last year!

Re: Success!
congratulations did you leave the other egg in? I had 3 hatch and left the 4th in as a buffer (so babys didnt get squashed) and after 1 week the 4th hatched.
Re: Success!
Julie I took the egg out once I confirmed it was infertile after a few days. I didn't want it to smash or go bad.
Not a bad effort to get 4 hatched, well done!

The 4th chic died it was so much smaller than the others, i dont think it had much chance.

Re: Success!
Cute little fellows. Are they in a hollowed out tree trunk? That's so cool!

Hey Ellie, yeah it certainly is a natural tree log, I give them a choice between that and a man made box and they go for the tree log every time!

Re: Success!
Wow - I presume they are in an aviary then? Is it on the ground or raised up somehow?
Did you buy it or find it yourself?
Ellie.

Re: Success!
Yes, they have an aviary all to themselves!
The log is up high, and to be honest I can't remember where I got it because i've had it for so long!
