Hi All
At the end of our shower, I noticed that Charlie had some blood on some feathers. I called my husband in to take a look and he thinks that it looks like it was coming from a clipped wing. His wings haven't been clipped recently... in fact, he is only one and they it was done by the breeder before we took them home. My husband is thinking that maybe our female bit him and he had a wound and maybe the shower jets started the bleeding? This is all conjecture though, because we haven't seen Janey attacking him or anything. Also, I don't put him under the shower jets. I have him on my hand and he moves over to the jets and puts his body under them. Should I stop him from doing this in the future?
I immediately tried to make an appointment with our avian vet but I found that he has left the vet surgery and has moved to Sydney.... so now there is no local avian vet here. The surgery said that there is a vet that will treat birds but she is not an avian specialist. What should I do? The nearest avian vet would be at least an hour's drive away.
I thought about grabbing Charlie with a towel and inspecting where the wound is but I haven't done that yet because it would traumatise him and it could potentially hurt him if he is wounded.
He seems happy enough in his cage. He is eating and moving around freely. We've put the heating on to keep him warm.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Ellie.

Hi Ellie
Sorry to hear about charlie. I know there is something you can put on the wound to help clot the blood, but can't remember what it is right now. Maybe try calling the pet store at Kawana Waters, the one on the Nicklin way near Harvey Norman. One of the girls from the Mooloolaba pet shop (I think it was Candice) that looks after birds has started there, see if she might be able to help.
Regards
Shane

Thanks Shane.
The bleeding has stopped... just worried it might recur again. We are spending the night in Brisbane tomorrow night... and I'm worried that something might happen to him whilst we are away.

Hi Ellie
maybe try separating them for that night, if you have a spare cage? Just in case it is Janey that caused the problem.

Thanks Shane. Probably a good idea. Whomever we isolate will hate the smaller cage... but better they be unhappy with that then be beat up!
