Ring?
I have searched about IRN's getting their ring but i cant really find the information that im looking for.
at what age can IRN's get their ring? can they start getting it before they are 1 year old?
i have a 7 month old ringneck, she has a very dark "ring" that both males and females get (the darkish grey/black around the neck area)
hers is darker then her 2 siblings and i was wondering if it was because she eats pellets and they dont?
she also looks to be getting red feathers on her neck, but i may be imagining it.
if anyone could help i would much apreachate it

Re: Ring?
Hi there,
My IRN is 15 months old and looks like this:

Maybe it helps.
One small suggestion: If your IRN will have a well defined ring, it's definitely a "he", not a "she"
Have a nice day!

Re: Ring?
If you're not 'imagining it', this would be the 2nd post I've seen on this forum with a bird younger than a year, displaying signs of a ring . About the ring at the age of 1, I'd say its theoretically possible. Practically, I'd say you and the other poster are the only people I know with a bird less than the age of 1 year having a ring. Thats intriguing. I dont think that the pellets would make a difference to the intensity of the ring. As that is a pigment question and the pellets would have to alter the natural pigment for it to be darker. But why'd you put her/he on a different diet?

Re: Ring?
I have a definate hen that has what looks like a ring, she is a rainbow and has a fluro looking green ring. I have seen several threads with this question and think maybe we should have a revisit thread to see what the birds ended up being. Sheena what color is the bird you are talking about?

Shes a mysterious lil one isnt she? The good old breeder could be wrong about this lady Yeah I'd get her DNA sexed to be 100% on the safe side.
