Molting question

Post by Omnicromm »

Hi Guys how are all of your? well i asked some time ago a question about molting and someone gave an answer (thanks for the answer by the way), so i was looking where was my post and i did not find it, because i am really worry about one of my guys, so i am asking again, one of my guys is in what it seems to be a hard molting and the other one is loosing just a few or his/her feathers (something like a very light molting), now comes my question they are around its 15 months so is this normal? why i say he/she is molting? well my guy has lost a lot of feathers but there is no ball spots all the spots has pin feathers he/she had duck tail and now his/her tail is growing after this i could say i have a girl? i understand that the ring has to apper around the 2-3 years but i was guessing the first molt is going to be around the 2 years, i have google it and i found a lot of information but there is a lot of contradictions in the information somones says that there is one first young molt at 1 year and an adult molt later and things like that; so i came here where the experts are!!!! :D !!!! and one last thing for how long i have to expect to pick up feathers from the floor? (at first was the wings and tail after that was the back and now is the head) so basicaly i want to know if this is molt and not any sickness and of curse if could say for sure that i have a girl or if i have to wait until the 2-3 years, i love how the rings looks but i dont know why i am a little more inclined to have a girl!! :D

by the way they have a healty diet: seed mix, nuts mix, penuts mix, lots of fruits and lots of veggys!

sorry about all of my questions but i want my guys in the best of their health since there is no vet avians here at my country,

thanks a lot for any help...

My sister and I each have IRNs, both males from the same clutch. One molts ahead of the other, every time. And he looks AWFUL. Once he did it when she was on vacation and when I looked in on him my first reaction was 'omg! He's dying!' haha! He looked that bad. He loses huge clumps of feathers at a time when he molts.

My bird, on the other hand, usually molts just a few feathers at a time. So he never really looked disheveled. Until this year and he looked like he exploded. I think he's four or five now lol. Wow time has flown.

Each bird will molt differently. :)

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay
