Post by IRN.sheela(: »

ok so i just got my first indian ringneck today,
so i dont really know much about her at all..although
this is not my first bird; its my first of this breed.
she is still kinda scared from the move from
the pet shop to my room but is doin okay so far.
she is pretty skidish an i have trouble getting her
out of her cage, oh and when i hold her she jumps
a lot (trys to still fly but her wings got cut)
and yeahh
she like runs away..i also have not had any problems
with bitting yet :D but... she is still really stubern haha :P

does anyone have any tips for like taming her?
and bonding-u know stuff like that?
andd really any info about this breed would be awesome too ;)

any tips at all would be amazing and REALLY helpful :)

thanks!

This will work, but its up to you..

Starting now, don't force her to do anything. When you want her out of the cage, just leave her door open, she will come out alone. You need to socialize with her, every time you see her moving around call her name and say hello & what r u doing. Try leaving her treats in the cage and wen you see her eating them, next time try handing her the treats from your hand.

Okay, this is how I trained Chiquita, Rascal and my two teils Punky and Princess.

#1. Keep your hand in the cage as often as possible so he gets used to it.
#2. Offer treats until he takes it out of your hand –do not give him the treat no matter how hard it is until he takes it out of your hand, keep you hand still, no fast jerky movements.
This is so he gets accustomed to your hands, birds seem to be afraid of hands.

To get him to come out let him come out on his own. Once you get him to step up you can just put him back in the cage yourself. But when he is out the first time to get him to go home say HOME and put a treat or favorite snack in there cage and see if that works. Now all I have to do with Chiquita is say home and she goes home.

Eventually you will figure out a routine that works for you. Never grab him or force him to come out or they will be scared and not want to come out.

Go up to the cage and talk to him softly. No fast movements and I don’t think you should grab him, this will make her afraid of you. Go by what she wants for now. He will sleep a lot because the stress of the move is hard on birds. So don’t be alarmed if she is sleeping a lot.

Be patient, don’t give up and keep at it. It’s a LONG LONG process.

She will learn to trust you on her terms.

No problem. :)

Yes, they are very stressed so they sleep a lot. He should perk up within a week.
