that's what birds do with their toys I go through toys like there going out of style I make my own now its allot cheaper and the birds don't care as long as the can wreck them , they don't care weather or not they are homemade or store bought.. I'm glad to hear that he's adapting well to domestic life he obxiously didn't like aviary life or he wouldn't of escaped LOL

 I've been away for a week so Nila has been on his own.

I came back late last night. When I woke up in the morning I could hear. " HELLO!!!! HELLO!! GOOD BOY!!! COME ON COME ON!!! "

He must have heard me come home last night and been really excited in the morning or he's been bored being on his own for a week and learnt to talk.

But I haven't heard him talk since I came out of my room. He was flying around the house crazy though!

Ah thats sweet he missed his dad. did you have some one come in and feed and change his water everyday. at least that would give him a little human company.

Well it's been a while since I've had him now, but I've kept thinking at the back of my mind he wanted to go outside for a fly again with the other birds. Few people here were against the idea but I finally decided.

Originally I only caught him for bringing him in just for the winter. The worst that could happen is that he wouldn't come back to me - which is his choice I guess.

So this week I let him out for a fly. All I did was leave the sliding door open until he flew out. I kept an eye on him and he took off for a while but came back in the afternoon.

He does seem a lot happier when he's flying free. Perhaps I'll do this more often again.

caught for winter

Hello it is nice to hear that you have caught a IRN as they are not native you should consider keeping in your home if you are that way inclined and are prepared to take on the great life of having a IRN in your home they will bond to you if you are that way inclined and make great friends at home they are the second best talkers and will follow you around the home like puppies. just keep hime in the cage for a few weeks going up every day to have a chat and treats fruit, nuts but not too many, talk to the IRN and get it used to you. it is not advisible to release it back to the wild as it will not survive as they are a flock bird and need that flock. as you have it inside you can become the flock that it will bond to. all i can say is that if you dont want him you can take him to the RSPCA and he will be snapped up there. hope this helps

Thanks. I don't want to release him, it's just for a fly.
I let him outside a few times and he flys back inside when he's ready. He seems happier.
Before this he started chewing things and being a bit destructive last couple of weeks.

I don't keep him in a cage anymore, instead he has his own perch in the corner of the room.

I've been letting him out when I'm home almost every day now when I'm home. Sometimes he doesn't want to go outside, so thats fine with me. And sometimes he wants to stay out all day. He never leaves my area though.

His cage is inside but I've put his perch out in the garden. It's a great set up. No mess! I still go outside to give him attention and feed him but he also gets to see the other birds.
He never makes any noise either anymore. A lot happier. :D

Here are some pics of him eating outside.
