Homemade handfeeding formulas

Post by fakahany »

Hi all,
In my country they don’t sell commercial hand feeding formulas....
So I have no choice other than to make a homemade formula ... currently am using babies formula (cerelac) ...
any advice will be appreciated ...knowing that he's 3+ weeks old ...

I haven't actually made my own before, but have found 2 recipes in the Handraising Parrots book. I'm not sure what you have available to you, so hope these help.

Recipe 1
1 cup raw wheat germ
1 cup high protein dog biscuits (ground fine)
1 cup hulled sunflower seeds (ground fine)
1 cup corn (maize) meal
1 cup millet meal
2 cups high protein baby cereal

Recipe 2
1 cup ground sunflower seeds
1 cup ground almonds
4 Granita biscuits (ground fine)
1 packt high protein baby cereal
1 tablespoon glucose powder
1 cup corn (maize) meal

You can also add peanut butter, apple sauce, steak and veges, beef and veges baby foods to these. Make sure they are the 4month ones, as they don't contain any lumps.

Here is another simpler one, but not sure if it would be as good as the above ones...
Parrot Pellets (12 ounces) soaked in spring (bottled water) for 20 minutes, then cooked in a microwave.

Then blend with the following:
3 tsp smooth peanut butter
3 tsp baby cereal
1 Banana
3 tsp apple sause
3 tsp tin of Baby creamed corn
3 tsp tin of baby Mixed Vegetables
3 tsp plain Yoghurt

You can then use the same pellets you used in your formula for weaning stage.
