Lutino died

Post by lutino »

Im extremely upset at the moment. I dont know how to deal with it. Last night Lutino was in my room as usual with the door open. I was in the lounge. Next thing i hear him screaming a painful scream i havnt heard before. I ran into my room, and my flatmates rat had my baby gripped around the neck. I managed to get the rat off him but he was bleeding from the neck. I lay him down, he was still breathing but his head went all floppy. I was frantic getting ready to take him to the vet. It was too late, about a minute after the attack happened he stopped breathing
I cant even explain how i feel. Heart broken and wanting to give up

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My heart goes out to you. It's horrible to lose a loved pet, especially in a way as traumatic as that. Just try to remember all the good time you had with lutino and how much love you shared with him. I know you're in a lot of pain now, but it does get better.

Im very sorry for your lost...... rest in peace lutino..

.......................Did you talked to your "flatmate" about this??? Well at least that person have to pay for what his/her dirty little creature did to your pet!!

OH god I just cant stand it when someone isn't responsible enough with their own pet.. Im not talking about you..

If I were you I would throw that damn rat out the flat, I dont care what my flatmate will say, I thought this will be fair enough.

I cant just let my fid got killed and do nothing about it then just wait until my feeling gets better, thats not me.

Domestic rats are infact VERY clean animals and im quite offended by your uneducated comment maybe you should research these "Dirty little creature" im sure it was not intentional what happened and it is basic instincts for them to protect themselves from danger or what may appear to be danger it is very unfortunate what has happened and im sure the flatemate feels terrible but you cant change nature!!

greenjenny...
i think these stuff can be talked out nicely between lut owner and the flatmate...
im sure the flatmate love his rat as well, and it was an accident...

we all know how does it feel to lose a beloved pet friend, it is painful...this case, lut owner feel it, but why must he make other who is sinless (i hope that was pure acident) feel the same( the pain)...

greenjenny and amazonite, im really sorry if i offend you, but i promise that it was totally not my intention...

Thanks for your support everyone. It will take me awhile to get over this. Im only 20 but ive had quite afew pets in my life. I have to say that ive never been more attached to a pet than i have been to lutino. Im at uni, and i always look forward to seeing him/her at the end of the day. We shared the same room, he would keep me company while i study, i would give him showers which he loves, he would get the rasins from my museli when we had breakfast together (i dont like them lol), he learnt a couple of words, and he would go nuts when my phone rang! These are just afew things i'll miss so much about my baby.
I am going to get lutino dna tested as 'he' (i think) was only about 1.5yrs. Ive had him since 4 months and im the only human he ever trusted, hes a timid lil guy.
My flatemate feels very sorry about what has happened, shes a vet actually. Im not the fondest of rats anyway but its still her pet.
The hardest thing is that he actually looks like he was in such pain

I have no idea what to do, i feel so lost. My flatemates dont seem to care. They play with those stupid rats infront of me. I know they have know idea of what im feeling. They think 'its just a bird'. I know this because i loved talking about lutino to them but they just thought i was obsessed or something, and basically said birds are stupid, they have no thoughts, and have no brains

I think you need to allow yourself to grieve over your baby lutino. I guess it is hard when your flat mates are a little insensitive to what you are going through by playing with the rats and saying you were obsessed and birds are stupid  :? Very "unvet" like I must say.

As your flat mates are not going to be there for you, you can always count on us. We know how much your baby means to you as does our babies mean to us.

So if ever you need to vent....vent away :)

well lut, this kind of people are all around the world...

if you regard her as friend, then let it be, or talk to her, but for you case she seems to be the reall sucky 1,
if you just can't be in piece inmind and soul, bcoz of your "friend" insensitivity, do something then...

i know it is bad, for me, stole the rat, sell it and buy another bird, not for the money, but for the anger and the punishment for your friend+ lesson for her   if that could bring you piece, just do it...she ask for it !!!! i would if i m you, i hate this kind of friend... :x

anyway, can share of what she said when knowing lut murdered by rat ?

im a very mean and evil person, to those evil person too,...sorry...

thats your choice...

Im not trying to defend your flatmate in any way but the rat is very like a bird exercise wise they NEED to come out and socialise but she should not be so insensitive maybe you could talk to her and tell her that it really upsets you to see the rat and ask if maybe she could have the rat out discretley and that is the least she could do.

Well Bella I hope you will change your mind once your bird got attacked by a rat. Rat will be rat I really don't care even if they are domesticated whatsoever.

Oh okay so just because they are domesticated it means they are "cleaner" than the wild one? Lets see.... Dog, so lets compare a wild dog and a pet dog, their saliva, is domesticated dog's saliva cleaner than wild dog's saliva? I don't think so, they are still DOG and therefore they still carry the same type of bacteria. I love dog but this is is the fact and you CANT change the fact that their saliva is DIRTY. Same goes with rat, if they bite you they can infect you with disease, what if they bite bird? The result will be even worse.

I guess you will have to think WHO really post that "uneducated" post.

Now back to the original thread, your flatmate is a vet??? LMAO! What would the world become if there is a vet who doesn't even know how to keep their pet properly? Its like a doctor who doesn't even know how to keep him/herself healthy. Very ridiculous I must say.

............so they don't care even though their stupid dirty little creature have killed your lutino? well the least you can is to kick that "pest" out of the flat!! Better yet, give it to the stray cats, they will really appreciate it. If your flatmate asked where did they stupid brainless rat go, just say "I dont care".

You are not just going to sit there and accept the fact that your beloved lutino got killed by "something" and do nothing about it, are you??? Please tell me....

Let the cat play with that stupid dirty thing in front of them, maybe this will make them realize how painful your feeling is when they play with it in front of you.

I know this because i loved talking about lutino to them but they just thought i was obsessed or something, and basically said birds are stupid, they have no thoughts, and have no brains

I seriously think these people are CRAZY!! They don't realize THEY are also obsessed with something, something that is much more dumb than bird.... what a retard..

You know what.. if you don't get rid of that rat soon then I think you are just being too....giving up... :(

 Yet another uneducated post.
First of all how the hell can you compair a rat to a dog!!!a pet dog still goes outside and rolls in dirt is at risk of catching things from being outside my rats live in a cage and are never at risk of catching anything they are disease free and guess what? im still here after a rat bite and im also disease free so mustnt be that dirty hey
A wild rat come in contact with human and animal waste and eats rotten food just to live so im guessing my rats saliva would be a little cleaner than a wild rat as they dont come in contact with these things or would you like to correct me on that?
The fact that they clean themselves after coming in contact with a humans does this mean they are dirty too?
I think that you need to educate yourself a little on rats before you comment next time i think you are forgetting that the owner of the rat is at fault not the rat!!!

i think take advantage of the rat would bebetter, sell it away and buy another bird
will, yes,i hate the person...not really the rat...
i never really hate animals, they do think with their inscint and feeling, unlike human...

i would like to have a dog to guard my house than a security guard...something like that...

yup,back to topic,
lut, if you have to do somethin to realease you pain in heart, just do it carefully...
as we are angry, we do think harsly, and i know how angry you are about the "vet"...
yup, sell it away, atleast, you woulden't have to kill it, and said i don't know and i don't care if she asks...hahahaha

I think that you need to educate yourself a little on rats

   Muahahahahaha, what did you just say?? educate myself a little on rats???  yea right right, I should "educate" myself about rat.. whatever.

Like I care, I don't like them and I really don't need to waste time knowing the difference between domesticated and wild rat... don't get me wrong though, I have hamster and I love it, but when it comes to rat, its a yuck for me! whatever kind of rat it is... Remember that I'm talking about RAT not its smaller cousin.

First of all how the hell can you compair a rat to a dog!!!a pet dog still goes outside and rolls in dirt is at risk of catching things from being outside my rats live in a cage

Did I say Im talking about your rat? Im not... Most people let their rat go out freely, just like pet dog. Which mean they could come in contact with absolutely anything.

I knows its not the pet fault, its the owner, but you cant exactly get "rid" of the owner...

Oh I just want to let you know that rat and "mouse" are different, so why be soo mad when you have a pet mouse and not "rat"..

So why comment on the rat for doing what is natural if you know nothing about them!!!

GreenJenny wrote:Did I say Im talking about your rat? Im not... Most people let their rat go out freely, just like pet dog. Which mean they could come in contact with absolutely anything.

No but when you talk about rats being "dirty little creatures" that normally means thats your general opinion of all rats if not then you should state that you only mean this one rat who you also know nothing about. I have never EVER heard of someone letting their rat just run around freely as the rat would probably not come back and any responsible owner would take them out on a lead and keep them from danger and anything that is unsafe just as you would with your bird.

GreenJenny wrote:Oh I just want to let you know that rat and "mouse" are different, so why be soo mad when you have a pet mouse and not "rat"..

This i just didnt understand i do not have a pet mouse i have two male very clean and intelligent rats and i know fine well that a rat and mouse are different :?

If your not willing to learn about rats then i think you should not comment about them without knowing the facts.

Would you go and get rid of or kill a dog for attacking a cat?

Wow....

Poor Lutino. I am sure they feel bad enough about their bird dying. And having it gotten attacked by their rat. The rat probably doent know any better. (Not alot of knowledge of rats.)

Everyone has their opionion but lets not turn this into an arguement

This is a post for Lutino and remembering him :D

Not about the arguing about how rats are cool and rats are gross and blah.

Bella you have a great opinon on liking them and Green Jenny you have a great opinion not to like them. Just Let that be.

Bella will love rats.
Green Jenny will hate rats.

Its up to the owner what they want to do with the animal after it killed another.

My dog killed my first IRN. We did get rid of the dog but if it was a dog i was really really attached to i probably wouldn't.

Please dont judge a vet who lives with someone. The vet does what it does best with what it has. Its not for you to judge if its a good or bad vet.

Im not trying to get into the middle of this. I just didnt like this remark so i made my opinion on it. 8)

sorry to hear about Lutino, not a good way to go.

lets be fair to the rat though, its not his fault. its reaction no was no different to an IRN's reaction to something it dosnt know, ie bite.

the blame rests with the flatmate, if the rat was put away properly it wouldn't have happened.

as to the comments about "dirty rats" grow up. its an animal, no different to your hamster, in other words its a rodent, seen by many as dirty rotten little things that need to be killed.

On the plus side, the rat is active during the day, are sociable, are highly intelligent, can be taught tricks and are great pets. it will also spend most of the day cleaning itself.

not like a hamster, sleeps all day, runs in a wheel thinking its going somewhere, and is that cleans it sleeps in its own p**s and s**t.

ive also got to add, in all the years ive known people with rats, and kept them i have never known anyone be so careless as to let one run around out side on its own. that to me would be a sign of someone failing to look after the animal properly.

i try not to get involved in arguments on the net, but when some one posts utter s**t about something the clearly have no understanding about it annoys me.

Thanks for your replies everybody, but none of this will change what has happened. Everyone has there own opinions on rats, birds, dogs etc, but no one is right and no one is wrong.
Just to clarify things, the rat was let out by my flatemate in the lounge while she was watching tv. I was in the lounge also and my door must have been open, not that i even thought about it. I thought the rat was in the lounge the entire time until i heard the screams. I just keep thinking this could have been prevented  , or i could have gone to bed earlier. Lutino didnt stand a chance, he was so sleepy. Even though i dont have an opinion on the rat, you must realise that it still hurts now when i see one.

Lutino, i know what you mean about seeing the rat. i think anyone would be pi**ed off watching their flat mate playing with it, and not caring about how you feel.

there is no point in beating yourself up with "what ifs" and "if only", it wasnt your fault, your flatmate had her pet out, and was to busy turning her mind to mush watching telly to supervise it. the only one to blame is your flatmate. the rat did what rats do, the same as any other animal, if the telly was to important to miss the rat should have been put away.

the thing i cant get my head around is what sort of vet makes comments about birds being dumb, and then is incapable of supervising their pet correctly.

Hey justin i know what your saying but if i was a rat lover or not i would still say the same because alot of people come on here reading these posts and being given false facts that rats are dirty. Alot of people think they are dirty nasty disease carrying vermin but its far from the truth and i dont want people being given the wrong information.

Lutino you should talk it out with your flatmate and tell her how you feel she should be understanding im sure she must feel terrible that her lack of attention for her pet has led to you lose yours.

GreenJenny.... just shut up. theres a lot of rat owners on this forum that dont appreciate hearing your crap excuse of an opinion. just because you personally dont like them, doesnt mean you can judge every one of them in the same. Its like someone that gets bitten by a dog then dislikes dogs all together, when some can be CLEAN and NICE and NOT aggressive.

so just drop it. we know you disagree with the rat being allowed near the bird to attack it in the first place, but so do we all. but saying "throw it out the window" etc. is out of order. what if it was the other way round and the bird bit the rat and killed it. say it was your rat, would you throw the bird out of the window?[/list]

i agree the only thing of any importance on this post is lutino getting support & having a safe place to vent emotions caused by this tragdey
yes it was a terrible way to loose a treasure pet but the insulting of rat was not only uncalled for but disrepectful to the memory of lutino

lutino i dont know about anyone else but i wish to apologise for the way your post has been treated

I get really paranoid about my animals getting out and getting near the others. We have the birds, dogs, snake, rats, lizards. My main concern is the python getting out and hurting indie and Mika or my beardies whop are right beside him.

Thanks for your support everyone. I kinda did so much crying in the first few days that theres nothing left to do. I kept waking up with blurry vision cos i cried so much  . Its weird, it seems like so long ago now, even though its only a week. Its annoying though because i think my mind is doing something so i forget what happened and dont feel hurt. I think im grieving in an unusual way.
The night it happened i was in so much agony that i felt like i was going to throw up and have a heart attack. It was literally insanely fast that i thought i would end up in hospital. Miss the little dude. I took a couple of feathers to the dna testing place at my university. I'll be so shocked if lutino's a girl lol.
I just feel so lost without him, i dont even know what my emotions are about anything now.

OMG i got the shocking news, the dna results only took 3 days. My little boy is actually a little girl!!! :D I dont mind the sex but she had so much male behaviour. Like regurgitating to the mirror, head butting it and the mating calls. Ive even seen the dance lol. Everyone i knew thought male too, but dna cant be wrong haha

I am so sorry for your loss. Keep all those lovely thoughts of your bird in mind and I am sure she knows how much you loved her. Hugs for you from Australia

I know what you are going through and how sad it is. I recently lost my best pal Tajj and I am not near over it. I am having his body cremated and the ashes are coming back to me. I kept some of his feathers too. I miss him often and it is so sad.

I relate to what you are going through. You did the best you could, it's just bad, bad luck what happened. I am sorry for you and Lutino. It will take time to get past it.

Im very sorry to hear this, but aside from everyone else's poltically correct approach...I say kill the rat. In the least it will make you feel better, it will avenge your lutino's tragic death, and ultimately will teach your flatmate a lesson.

Maybe 2 wrongs dont make a right, but 2 negatives DO make a positive!
