umbrella !

Post by kyria »

OMG yesterday we went to a bird store here in Florida and they had a few greys, some green cheeks, cockatiels, lovies, a lesser sulphur crested cockatoo and !! an umbrella cockatoo, he is only a baby and still on 2 feeds a day. My christian sister here, Lisa, fell in love and so did I. We couldn't stop thinking about him. He loves cuddles, what a cuddle bug, and kisses and just adores to hug and chew and kiss, just totally fell in love.

Lisa really wanted an umbrella, so today we went back to the store with her husband and the kids to take another look. Her husband was collecting toys, perches, gear and food for the baby, the lady was checking that I knew about hand feeding so we could take him home today, that I would definately be here for the next 4 weeks to feed him and finish weaning him.

Then suddenly Lisa wanted to think on it for another day  .. sob ! I was so looking forward to teaching Will (their 10 year old boy) how to keep him tame, and care for him, to train him etc. And to helping them settle him in here. I mean .. If my hubby was that eager there is no way I would hesistate.

But on the other hand, if she wants to consider it alot more first then thats the way it should be. Sigh!

We will see what happens tomorrow. If they go back for him I will definately post pics

That's really great!! Gotta give your friend credit for not just jumping in and buying on impulse. Those Umbie 2's can really pull on your heart strings. How old is this baby? Mine just turned 4 months old yesterday and is still on 2 feedings. Too's like to take their good old time weaning some even take up to a year to fully wean. I love my baby he's just starting to show us some attitude it's cute now but we have to be careful not encourage it to much. Tell your friend good luck!! We'll be waiting for the pics.

SAME HERE IF MY HUBBY WAS AS INTERESTED IN BIRDS I WOULD KEEP A AVIARY
AND I WOULD NEVER HAVE GIVEN IT ANOTHER DAY INCASE MY HUBBY CHANGES HIS MIND

BUT ITS SMART OF YOUR FRIEND TO THINK IT OVER BEFORE GETTING A NEW PET

BUT IF I WOULD GET A CHANCE I WOULD NEVER LET IT GO ESPECIALLY FOR A UMBRELLA COCKATOO AND A CUDDLY ONE THE WAY YOU DESCRIBE
OOOOHHHH I SOOO... WANT ONE

He is only 14 weeks which makes it perfect for them to keep him totally tame and socialised. I have 4 weeks here to help them with learning to care and train him. :D She is still thinking, of course her 10 year old is bugging her no end. lol and so is her hubby. He told her about a dream he had where the baby ended up in some aweful home where he was neglected and began plucking, I think he was trying to pull at her strings to make her chose to go get Gandalf. Yep hubby already named him, because when he fluffs up all his head feathers he looks like gandalf the wizard from Lord or the rings.

I'm thinking Auntie Angie needs to give Will a little present (or have him babysit "your" bird while you are in Oz).......

lol cats .. Well we got him/her.

I am thinking her, I have been showing Will how to handle her and helping the family settle her in. She is the most cuddly thing and already beginning to be vocal, especially when she is hungry. I was blowing on her feathers this morning after her feed and she bent over and began the shower fluff and fuss, she got all excited so we gave her a spray bath. It was so much fun.

I will go and post pics and vids in the share your flock section as she isn't an IRN .

We tried a few names, but the family settled on Jasmin (Jazzy) as she is white like hubbies favorite plant (Jasmine).
