Hi everybody

Post by tammy »

My name is Tammy and I am a new owner of a precious Indian Ringneck. The new character has not as yet got a name as I have only had him/her for 4 days. I wouldn't mind some name suggestions. He is blue and already seems to be developing a character of his own. I have never owned a parrot before and still feel a bit lost. Very relieved that I have found your website.

I would appreciate some advice on some of the behaviour that he/she is displaying which I am not sure how to interpret. He/she bobs the head up and down quite a lot, even when I am feeding. The bird is about 6 weeks old. He/she also tends to start chirpping when it hears me or sees me.

I really would appreciate some advice and guidance.

many thanks

Welcome Tammy :D We want to see pics of this pretty baby!!

The bobbing is normal for a baby, thats his way of begging and also they must bob while their being fed.

As his personality comes showing then you will find the perfect name.

Welcome to the board, Tammy. I'm happy you found us too. Though, I can't think of any name suggestions at this moment...

I did once have a list of names I liked. But I think I lost it.

I do remember that many of the names I enjoyed were from greek/roman or egyptian history and mythology. But then, I do love history. :)

Hi Tammy,
Welcome to the board. I was on holiday down your way this summer. I also have a friend with birds who lives near you....of course the name of the suburb escapes me -- it is out by the airport; I want to say Benoni? Anyway, she brought her fids to keep me company at the airport while I was waiting for my flight. What great fun!

Well, blue will always make me think ocean (because I sail), so I would think of oceanic mythology first. Like Orpheus or Halcyon, lol.

But I've seen Icarus used for birds, always a cute name. Oedipus is a name I like for animals as well.

One of the non-myth names I love is Chanticleer. :)

But it all depends on how you like to personify your little one and the idea you wish to evoke in others when you say the name. ^_^
