Intro to myself, Dexter & Mango

Post by clawnz »

I am in Auckland New Zealand.

I have taken over parroting 2x Alexandrine brothers. They were both handraised by a young Lady right from the nest.
Sad news was.
Due to circumstances she has not been able to look after them the way she felt they need. So started to look for someone who she felt would give them that care. I have taken them in with the thoughts that Lura maybe able to be reunited with them.
I have had them 12weeks now, and it has been a big learning curve for us. Them because they were never around other people. And myself as I have had to learn about Alexandrine parrots.
Dexter has bonded to me extremely well and he goes to work with me some days.
Mango is hand tame, but is more at home hanging out with my Tiels who live cage free.
Both are clipped, but hopefully the day will come when I have harness trained them and they can fly as birds should.
Socialising them is what I have been doing, getting them around people. And the ultimate was to use them in a (My First ever) Bird Presentation in front of around 200 adults and children. They were super and behaved so very well, I was stunned that they took this in their stride.
My aim is to promote Bird Welfare and care, showing what can be done with love for our feathered friends.
Dexter 4yr
Mango 3yr
Looks like I will have to post photos later? Links were not allowed?

Thank you Miss K

I am still working on getting enough posts so I can post photos or links to my photo's.
Dexter has become my shoulder buddy and goes most places with me.
People cannot believe I have a live parrot on my shoulder.
Just yesterday a lady said I made her day seeing how one can have that sort of trust with a bird.
You are right it takes time for them to show their real personality's. Dexter is certainly coming out of his shell.

Mango on the other hand like to hang with my others guys, so he does not get to go out that much, but I do make sure he is not left out.
Most important is that they consider me their safe zone if there is anything going on.

Yes I think they are like Indian Ringnecks. Some claim better behaved! But I have not had either before so cannot comment.
It may come down to character and who raised them.
