the taming of the riku

Post by bec »

this is the first meeting of riku & larissa love at first ....taste?
Image
this is the first time riku took food from larissas hand

this is the first meeting of riku and kieron

Image
then riku learned to step up onto a food bowl in my hand
Image
and very quickly learned that hands were not the only places you can sit
Image
and bowls werent the only thing that held food
Image
and her latest trick... flying straight from the top of the cage onto bare hands
Image
so tell me, how do you think we are doing?

Cheers :D

hey chooky i was wondering where you got to
that blue is my adult boy kieron but yes general is out of
quarantine & getting along famously with riku but kieron is scaring him by doing the mating dance at him all the time then lunging at him when he doesnt understand
im thinking of getting an adult girl for kieron i think he needs a girlfriend
& i dont think it will wait till riku & general grow up
poor poor frustrated birdy

lol sorry bec, I knew I'd got it wrong when I checked what I posted and saw keiron's ring

I'm very interested in how your ringnecks interact....Tricky is getting extremely attached to me....which isn't a bad thing for me but it's sad for him when I can't be there. A fellow at my husband's work has a young yellow ringneck for sale (unknown sex, but so is Tricky).....I do have a large cage that I could house him in (Tricky's travelling cage)until they get better acquainted. Would they eventually be friends though?? How do your lot get on???

My sister warned me about this.....she said once I had one I would find a reason to get another....lol.

Bec, you are a night owl like me!

Off to look at the photos of General!
and I'm a bit chuffed that you wondered where I was :D

wellchooky its definitl noisier hear since we enlarged the flock
we did introductions slowly with general first we brought his cage out at night when the others were in their cage then we did the taking turns at fly outs the riku & general together then when they were hay we let kieron into the mix they are still sorting out the pecking order
& kieron is going nuts doing his mating dance to anyone who looks like they might be interested (although im not sure how judge judy would feel about him doing it to her  )
but all in all they are doing well
& plus now kieron isnt my only blue baby hes getting jealous & showing of to get more of my attention by doing things like landing on my hand & taking food from me

my advice about getting another irn is quarantine is important!!!
& dont suffer from mbs enjoy every minute of it!!!!

Bec, jealousy is something I really worry about...Tricky is such a sook and has become very attached to me (though at least he will interact with the other family members now). I don't want to put his nose out of joint. Dunno what to do, I agree that the more the merrier but I'm just a bit concerned that it won't have a good effect on the Trickster if he suddenly has to share my attention. Not to mention that the dogs are already p/o'd - Tricky has tugged at their ears and bitten their noses when they get too close - they hate that a bird is the boss

I'll give it some more thought.

Cheers :D

hi again chooky i suppose jealousy could be a problem altho its been an asset for me .....
the more riku gets bolder & cheekier with spending time getting special "yummies"( rewards for when she does tricks )
the more jealous kieron gets & the gamer he gets
i can now put my hand in the cage whille hes in there
& he will sit on the back of my chair if i put popcorn there
(&promise not to peek!!!) we are still trying to capture that one on film
the best trick ive learnt is when they get a bit territorial move & re arrange the cages
i know it sounds silly but its not the first time ive used this trick on a pet & it does work
there are alot of posts about how people coped with introducing new birds into there flock
im presently looking for flock member number 4
what can i say im addicted :D
oh by the way did you get around to reading the poem?
