Yeah mites are a problem when there are wild birds around your birds.
I don't know of any other way of getting rid of mites other than spraying your bird and cleaning and spraying the cage and accessories. I asked my vet about treatment in water or a "spot" treatment like is used for fleas in dogs but he said that there is nothing like that available that is safe for birds here in Australia.

yes there is , exmite and liveraid in drinking water.
These are herbal medicines, you can see on page 3

a "spot" treatment
pinkdevil there is also a spot treatment and i think must be the better not only for mites and lice but for worms too, its name Ivermectin, many companies produce it.

Oh dear, wild birds do bring mites and lice, so I would keep him away from wild birds from now on.
Mites can become serious for the bird if left untreated, there is lots of sprays and spot treatments around. I would research and find one asap. You can buy over the internet if you cannot find them in your area.

I asked my vet about Ivermectin as I had heard of people using it on their birds. He said he would not recommend using Ivermectin as it would kill birds over time
pinkdevil
i havent my own experience about that, but i know that there are many in the market, and manifactures says that is safe
