Boy or Girl...What d' ya think?

Post by lagranpuchica »

This is my Lutino IRN. I named him Diego. Did I do good in giving him a boy name or not? He's just over two years old. Thanks.

Sorry I'm thinking female!!! The eyes and beak tell me so. Only way to be sure though is DNA test.

The eyes scream girl to me. Also being just over two and no sign of any red beginning in the ring area.

I would say Girl !

Do you notice any behaviour, like rocking the head back when you pet her, or making a squeaking clucking kind of sound ?.. or bowing the head down in an arch with the beak on the ground when you pet him/her.

Or does s/he arch the head, pin the eyes, hop along and flare the shoulders out ?

Any of this kind of behaviour description would help better to decide.

You can also get a DNA test. The following link is to a thread that informs you of where to get a DNA test done, and there are some vids that I posted when I was known as angie that shows typical male and female behaviour. This could help you also.

Cheers.

Diego's behavior is what lead me to start doubting his masculinity after I had read about the typical female behavior in another thread. Diego does tilt his head back and makes kind of a clucking sound when you pet him. It's gonna be hard getting used to saying her instead of he. I guess a name change is due as well since she doesn't say Diego anyway. It doesn't matter...I love my bird no matter what.

The beak is too low for a Male, in my humble opinion. Thats how I sex and believe it or not... its almost full proof.

Stare at a females beak placement, then a males... A Markable Difference. Females beaks tend to be much lower.

If your IRN's mother is NOT a Lutino, then it's a GIRL. More accurate than DNA testing

I'm not sure whether the mother is a Lutino or not.

Id bet a bussel of apples on a girl.

If its not a female, you can beat me with a blunt object.

Im blessed with being pretty good at visually sexing... to me its in the beak.

To others thats good at it, they have their own technique. For me, the beak never forsakes me.

My breeder told me for two years I had a girl. I told him for two yrs to lay off the crack. Knew he was a boy :!:

My breeder sexes pelvicly but he obviously isnt that good at it.

I knew a Lucia Diego Fin... she actually used her middle name "Diego" as her main name.

L. Diego Fin.

Guess its all down to how you feel the name fits.

For me , just in the lutino, its the eyes. The females definately all seem to have that wild frightened eyed look.

I would agree with Julie...looks like a classic 'boy' round head...but then again you never know!

If you have to know before two-four years pass get a DNA done...

Remember, some birds take longer to beginning getting their rings

So true, Baby is 2.5 yrs old and all he has is the black and its stopped there. Well, he has some of the blue shimmer above where the red will ONE DAY be.

He really likes to mess with me :!:

Great sense of humor.

Tuky is very cute. Looks like a male but I cannot be 100%. Males mature around 2 years so you could wait a little longer? We'd love to here about your Tuky in the introduction area.
