Post by ambros1a »

i got bored, and typed in parakeet in google images, and came across a couple of strange looking piics, they make me think of ringnecks, but something about them, the beaks maybe, make me think otherwise
this is supposed to be a 'plum head parakeet'

They say this is a blossom head parakeet

all of them come from the psittacula family so it is because of that you think they look like ringnecks..

A plum head is a different species altogether. They are not a mutation of an indianringneck. And I think that one pic could be an African ringneck, they are a bit smaller then the Indian. I don't know why they call the last ones echo parakeets, I've never heard them called that before.

Yep that site is awsome. I want every psittacula species! They are all different species all together but of the same family (psittacula) IRNs are Psittacula Krameri Krameri. My fave is the Malabar. They are beautiful. The yellow ringneck looks like an african.

The Echo is endangered it is from Mauritius. :(

All these 'scientific' names are confusing. I'm thinking these birds are called by a million and one names.

that is why the scientific names come in handy!
