Buddy is doing soooo well!

Post by Mikaela »

Here are some pics of my 'Buddy' getting tucked in for the night.

I have had him about a month and he is now stepping up, not fleeing and seems to be very happy!

Tomorrow, I am going to video him stepping up. Its hilarious! He flaps like a freako then UP! haha

He understands the command and what to do but is so very clumsy with it, bless his heart... he'll get it right. Its only been a month! Im very proud of him.

Hope you love him as much as I do.

He's beautiful Mik, he looks like he has put on weight? I have sent a picture of the full playstand (the last pic) to my brother. I hope he can make one similar for my fids to play on. He's a gorgeous colour yellow.

Wow - only a month! Hope I can say the same thing with Sapphire - went backwards today.

Mik do I gather you don't have any other animals?

Your playstand is wonderful - did you make it yourself?

We make all of our stands. They love them because we personalize them to how they play.

We have accidently sold quiet a few here (at 100.00, gave them away but we had to make up the difference in materials or I would build them free.)

I have bunches of fids... not just one. This is Buddy, my new fid, then there is Baby (IRN and my best friend).

Punkin my Quaker and last but not least, Peaches my tiel... Baby's wife.

Then 4 boys, Jared 6, Jordan 13, Jeffrey 16, Matthew 18 and should have one in the oven any day now. Husband, running from 40.

We are all one big happy flock... even hubby came around and joined the fun! :D

He was OUT on the whole bird thing until he realized being out on it would get him put OUT.

I cant make him love birds but I can sure make him pretend.

He's looking good and glad to hear there is progress. He's such a pretty color yellow.

And the rest of the flock is just as good looking, feathered and human.

And those play gyms are great. My two have one of those creations and they love it. And so do I.

I love him so much Girl!

His color is to die for. When I walked in that day and saw him for the first time, I couldnt believe it.

Males look REALLY good after 3 years.

And he is stepping up and everything! He flaps when he does it but he tries... and gets the job done!

Are your birds REAL good about staying on the natural wood stand? Mine never flutter down.... ever. Other stands, they would.

My birds only stay where I put them until they decide they want to be where I am and then they crawl down or if necessary flop down and walk to where ever I am. Priya's flight feathers are all about in and she has learned to glide to the floor nicely. Nila still hasn't molted his cut flight feathers or broken tail feathers. It worries me. I thought he would have moulted his before Priya but not so. I want to let them learn to fly before I clipped them. Priya is well on the way and I am fearful, especially after reading about Maya flying off.

I have an appt at the vet on Mon to have the wings, nails and beaks done. I don't think they need beak trims but I'll have them look at them for me anyway.

My birds learned to crawl down that playgym within a week of having it and follow me around. They love to play on it but love to follow me around too. :D

Baby has never known flight so he doesnt care and is very agile. Buddy was always with flight until he came here. He still squats to take off them remembers, poor thing.

He is a lot more clumsy than he should be... bet its because he is getting use to being trimmed. He is so precious stepping up... flapping like crazy.

I have video of him stepping up, its funny.

Mik, could you put your video of Buddy stepping up on the video forum please - I just would love to see how you guys teach the step up - I've tried with a perch from the cage, but that only worked once, and now Sapphire is scared of that perch!! (In fact it's downright scared of everything including me!!)

Yes Topaz... I sure will. Now mind you, he is a scared bird I have only had about a month but he has come around enough:

A: not to flee from me

B to learn step up and some speech.

He steps up very clumsy though because this is entirely new to him. He thinks he must flutter up, bless his heart. He'll get it right!
