Congratulations on your boy

with the dna testing whats involved, do you have to pull a feather out or can you just get one that has fallen out or is there another method
thanks

Congrats on your "new" boy! :D

With the DNA that I use, I go with the little jab in the toe and take a blood sample.
I can't handle pulling out a feather....come to think of it, I can't even do the needle jab thing. Shane does it for me, then I get to play the good parent and make it all better. :P

And Deano, the vet plucks a feather out from their belly, i am not sure if you can use one that has come out by itself,
Do you send it away yourself Pinkdevil :?:

MDS is a very well known institution.

I use DNAsolutions now and then as well. They are based at Curtin University here in Australia.

More expensive than MDS though.

Thanks for the info everyone on the dna testing, i would feel a bit bad ripping a feather out or doing a blood sample , wonder if it would affect the taming by hurting the bird.

But im sure they would soon get over it

I first handraised girl, Jasper, had the blood sample DNA, and she hasn't held a grudge against me yet. :)

Also did it with my Rainbow Lories and neither has the tame one.

When I DNA'ed my first lot of young chicks, they didn't even flinch with the needle jab. :)

I put it down to like us having a needle.
