When can you stop feeding through the night

Post by Fisherringnecks »

I have a 7 day old ringneck that the mother would not feed. I am feeding it Kaytee my question is how old does it have to be before I stop feeding it through the night?

I think breeders pull the baby birds out of the nest at 2 weeks of age, where they no longer have to be fed during the night.

A one-week on baby also need to be kept warm/cool (depending to the weather conditions)

If I were you, I would contact my avian vet to advice.
Cheers

for the same reason, i handfeeded lazaros from 2 weeks, too
I was handfeeded him 6 times a day with kaytee formula, at 8 ,12, 15, 18, and 24 hour.
At 4 weeks i reduced to 5 meals ( the last was at 24 h), at 6 weeks to 4 and at 8 weeks ( begin of weaning stage ) to 2, one at 11 am and the other at 10 pm. I continued the handfeeding until 12 week with a meal per day at night.
I have found that the night meal was the bigger, especially at weaning stage, so i used it until stop.

Age of Chick Feeding Times Feeding
Amounts
1-4 days Every two hours 1 - 2 cc's
5-7 days Every three hours 2 - 3 cc's
8-14 days 7:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 3:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 11:00 PM 4 - 6 cc's
15-24 days 7:00 AM, 12:00 PM (Noon), 5:00 PM, 11:00 PM 7 - 10 cc's
25-34 days 7:00 AM, 5:00 PM, 11:00 PM 11 - 15 cc's
35-44 days (fledging) 7:00 AM, 7:00 PM 11 - 15 cc's
45 days to weaning 7:00 PM 11 - 15 cc's

The crop should be firm and round not bulging. After babies are 1 week old I don't feed through the night so the crop has time to empty completely in 24 hours. Thickening up your formula a little may keep them from begging for more.
