Memory in Parrots?

Post by Lauren »

Was just wondering.. Does anyone know how long birds remember things? How do they distinguish whether theyve seen a person before or not? Gilbert remembers people he hasnt seen in months. But anyone new that enters the house, he will activate his global, internal, high pitched, screaming device non stop till they leave. Bad behaviour I know! But atleast Ive got an alarm if any unwanted intruders enter my house. No need for a guard dog! They must have a damn good memory!

Yes, Ringnecks do have a great memory. My Ringnecks never forget a face. It’s amazing to see how they react to people they have not seen in ages.

On a side note, I taught Archimedes several tricks when he was a juvenile and he never forget them—even if I do not practice them in months. Ringnecks have superb memories.

Best wishes,

Imran
