MY INDIAN RINGNECK CANNOT TURN HIS HEAD TO THE LEFT -

Post by vesprada »

I have an Indian Ringneck whose head cannot turn to the left and his Vulva is sticking out.

What is wrong with him?

Someone please help me I am so desperate for answers.

He still talks to me, but does not want to come out of his cage and is drinking a lot of water.

Hi vesprada, can you ask your vet about this? I don't know what's happening with your bird, but if he seems ill then a vet is the best person to talk to - the sooner the better.

Has your bird had any other symptoms such as diarrhea or loss of appetite, puffed up feathers like he's cold, or quiet and lethargic looking? Is he breathing heavy? Is his head stuck in one position? If you answered yes to even one of these questions you really must take your bird to an avian vet as soon as possible. It could be a bacterial infection, a stroke, or polyomavirus. None of those things should be taken lightly. I wish you luck.
I am owned by my birds...and I wouldn't have it any other way :D

I really think regardless if he is eating and talking fine, he should be seen by an avian vet asap! Its not normal, and they are great at masking illness etc until the very end!!

My IRN is doing a lot better!
He had swallowed part of a Peanut Shell.
He is always eating as if it is his last
Meal.

Thank you for all your replies.

Your bird needs to see a vet.
If he cannot move his head indicates there is a problem. How do you know he is not in pain?
Birds hide pain and illness very well. Just because he seems to be better, does not mean he is getting better.

Thank you for that last reply!

Vet says that the shell was stuck and he took it out.
Very uncomfortable spot for piece of shell to get stuck.

I don't doubt that at all. I'm glad your birdy is feeling better. Hope he's learned his lesson, but probably not :D

Hi Skye, I responded to missK's pvt msg to me, and then noticed your msg, i have asked that the SECOND post in this forum made by "me" be removed. I did not post it, and when i try and edit it, or remove it, it returns? So i have reported my own post, and am hoping admin can assist by taking it down.

I did make the first post, but the second is under my name, but not placed by me?
(no one else has access to my acc, so i dont know what is happening but i am trying to look into it)

Hi guys

I just removed SCB's comment as requested and Skye's following it (as Skye's won't make sense after it's deleted). SCB - I suggest you change your password.

Apologies for my tardiness on this matter.

Ellie.
