Post by kortch »

I definitely want to purchase a male ring neck parakeet but i am going to be buying a young one so it will not have a ring yet is it possible to dna one before buying ? i would be extremely disappointing if i bought one thinking it was male and then later found out it was female :(

Yes it is possible but it depends on the person you are buying off. They may say its fine if you pay for it.

The breeder I bought my bird from had already had the chicks dna tested. I wanted a male so I decided on one, but I was charges the $20 dna test fee at the time I bought my bird. rod038 is correct, totally depends on the breeder. I'm pretty sure pet stores never dna test though, so you don't know what you're getting unless its matured and has a ring.
