I have a 4-5 yr old male ringneck. Recently we lost his companion & he is not taking it well. He has started to chew on his tail feathers & is just generally unhappy. We would like to get a new companion for him but I am not sure if a male or female IRN would be better? Also would a younger bird (<1yr) or one closer to our bird's age (4-5yrs) be better? Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: how to choose a companion for my IRN
Is there any other species you like? I had a rainbow lorrie aswell as my boy,the lorrie was pretty full on but they got on ok (not kept in same cage). I now have an alexandrian that lives in the same cage with my older irn and a young irn.
It depends a lot on the birds personality to how they would cope with the new bird so its hard to say get male or female.

We are thinking either another IRN or maybe a quaker parrot. He was with a african grey when he was a baby before we got him. We had a cockatiel with him most recently, both were females.
