3 years old and still no full ring
Hi. I have a question. Alex was 3 years old this month and his ring is still not complete. How long does it usually take? He started getting his ring with cca 15, 16 months.

Hi, was Alex a dna'd male? If not then maybe Alex is a female, they do not get the rings.

Do you have a pic?
Some colored birds only get a pale ring that barely shows (my creamino cock is like that).

Hi Ladyflame
My understanding is that it can take a few moults to happen. So even if Alex is 3, he may need to wait till his next moult to grow it in fully.
Regards

i didnt make a dna test since the ring started to appear but im sure he is male because he is courting and trying to mate. since Alex is the only bird i have, he tried many times to mate on my grandmothers hand xD

The black between his eyes and cere is a dead giveaway that he is male. Id say he hasnt had a full hard moult yet.House birds live mostly in temperature controlled environments, in winter we have the heater on and in summer the air cond.If the house is always around the same temps it will take longer for him to have a full hard moult.
