red eyes
i have a pair of torquise cobalt irn the breeder that sold the parents to me said they might be split for buttercup, they have three chicks and one of them has plum coloured eyes ,they all have small deep blue pin feathers on the edge of the wings does anyone know if this bird with the plum eyes will be full buttercup and what coloured head will it have
Re: red eyes
It sounds like it will be a Buttercup also known as a Clearheaded Fallow because of the eye color. Splits will have normal colored eyes. If its a Cock bird then the head will turn a cream colour after 2 years of age. This is because of the Pastel factor. No Pastel factor and it would have been white. If its a Hen then the head will be the same color as the rest of the birds body. The other 2 young may be possible splits to Buttercup but you have no way of knowing unless they are test mated when they are old enough to a Buttercup.
Re: red eyes
i am unsure which parent bird is split for buttercup the cock or hen so how will i work out which chicks will be cocks and hens as both parents are the same colour

Re: red eyes
Hi there if you produced a buttercup then both parents are split buttercup.
if only one was split then you wouldnt get visual buttercups.
these are the results of the pair.

Like Glenn said both parents had to of been split Buttercup to produce a Buttercup baby. You can not tell the Sex of the young unless you wait till they are old enough for the Cocks to get their ring or you get them DNA or surgically sexed. I get all my young DNA sexed but if you are going to keep them and not in a hurry just wait.
