Hi, I notice my Lutino Ringneck have some odd red colouring.
1st of all, he started growing his ring as early as 9 months old.
Now he is about 15 month old. He just complete a huge molting. His has become very very red and vibrant. But the odd thing is, his feather cheek near the ear hole has tinge of red which become more obvious when he is wet.
He also grow a few red feather under his wing.

His diet is high potency herrison bird diet pellet with some amount of fruit or vague everyday.
Seed given as treat during training section
So, may be we can rule out vitamin deficiency issue

As far as I understand, his mum is an albino African Ringneck.
Can the Cross breeding cause the ref feather

He is very active, talk and play all they long.
I have tried taking picture, but due to my inability to take good quality picture, the red feathering can't be seem. So I deleted the picture.

I brought him to a vet. The vet say he THINk nothing is wrong with that red feather.
Any opinion regarding this issue?

Can anyone who have mature Lutino Ringneck look out for this red feather?
Is my Ringneck the only Ringneck with this odd case?

Thanks

Red IRN - is there such a thing? or is it what people are trying for?

Ellie.

molossus wrote:It is not unknown for IRN's to display 'odd' colour in their infancy. Often a blue bird show high percentages of black. This is usually temporary and it is normal for them to lose this during their moult. Although I have known red to remain on the yellow into adult plumage this trait has not proved to be hereditory.
But you never know. Place a pic on the site and keep photo records after each moult if this is retained I suggest you breed this bird with an Opaline mate to ultimately breed the Red IRN.
iam not too worry about the mutation. but i am just worry that it has health issue indicate by the red feather.
however, he is kept as pet and will not be bred with a female

Hi guys/girls,

There are people around the world that are producing pied ringnecks that have red on them but other then that it would only be the ring colour which on a lutino should be pink.

But in this case the bird is a hybrid as his mum was an ARN and dad a IRN.
So wait till he finish's the second mult and you will have a better idea on what colours will show.

Thanks Glenn

Thanks Donna, thanks bec, missing you guys too. Have been busy and didn't log in for the past few months or years. Haha.I was indulging in trying some expiriance on breeding breeding before decided that it's too handful for me. So I find a good home.
My Ringneck is still the same old one but now with a ring on his neck.
He is 1yr 5 months old now, but has grown his ring since 9months old. His name is tango
I will try to post some picture of him soon

Nice to see you guys again
