Identification Ring placed on baby IRNs, good/bad?

Post by yoshi »

I recently was reading posts in the forum and someone had mentioned how they don't like the little rings that some breeders put on the IRN's leg when they are little. I've always been told they are very good and that all birds need to have them... But, I can't help but wonder if maybe this is false? Yoshi always picks at his. Granted, it's still new to him because he just got it FORCED onto his leg about a month ago... When we picked him out of the clutch the breeder put it on his leg... It was hard to watch him struggle and make the pain noise.. But anyway, I was just wondering what everyone else's thoughts were.

Thanks. :)

I do not ring all my birds, although for traceability I probably should. Sometimes I do not get the ring on in time, (little chickies grow so fast!) or I just decide not to.

What age was the ring forced on? A closed ring is usually placed on the chick around the 10-ish days old age, depending on the size of the chick of course.
Was it a split ring? It isn't too tight is it?

My birds that I have place rings on, do not seemed to worry about them.
