Need help with weaning

Post by xx_sheena_xx »

Iv search weaning but i cant find anything that helps me.
Iv got a 10 week old IRN that wont eat anything but formula, the breeder has told me to stop feeding it but it wont
eat by itself. The other 2 are weaned already and mines not interested in food at all, anyone got any ideas of what i can do?

What a sooky bub you have there. lol

Have you tried adding mashed fruit/veg to the formula so s/he gets the taste for other foods?

I introduce moistened pellets to the formula then eventually just moist pellets, then dry.

Also offering soaked or sprouted seed. Being inquisitive, when s/he sees the others enjoying all the tasty foods, I am sure s/he will just have to check out the goodies to. :)

He is actually by himself, so maybe that why he is slow?
I tryed putting him in with the tiels but he attacked the two older ones.
He wont eat from a spoon, wont allow syringe feeding because he will spit all the food at me, doesnt want wet pellets or fruit!!
It has to go back to the breeder for a couple of days because im going away and he cant come :(
Ill keep you updated, im not going to feed it more than once a day now!

I had a love bird that was like that also. Couldnt get her to eat real food for anything. The pet store told me to take monkey bread (that you buy at the pet store) and soak it with warm water. She would nibble at that. Once she got to eating that well I would give her that soaked with formula. Eventually she moved on to food. I thought I was going to be hand feeding this baby forever. She is such a love tho! She loves to cuddle and play in my hair! LOL!
