Woah!! i just read the "What to feed your ringneck" sticky, and it says dont feed tomato's and apple pips. iv fed spit tomatos loads he likes a full one on his skewer and he likes peeling the skin off. he isnt a fan of the seeds but he likes the juice. whats so bad about them? weve had him about 8 months and hes eaten tonnes of em.
also apple seeds, we put a whole apple on his skewer which he mostly shreds, but iv seen him eat a seed or two.
i think hes eaten tonnes of stuff he "isnt supposed to"

i never listened to the no tomato or apple seed rule, Amazon eat those too, he helps himself to tomatos and i hate cutting up apples to get the seeds out so he gets a whole one and he eats it all.
I was told from our bird specialist if they dont like it they will spit it out, if its goign to kill them they wont eat it.
I dont see why they cant get these things in the wild they dont get told you cant get that, i bet they eat most fruits and veges they can find in the wild.

Sharlene and Amazon
true. spits been fine every single time he eats them. tomatos were his favourite thing to eat when we first got him, now he likes more bitter things like cox's apples and lemons and stuff.
he seemed quite intrigued by the apple seed too that i saw him eat, pulled all the skin and everything to pieces. kept him interested cus he couldnt hold on to it properly lol.
was just checking i wasnt making a huge mistake and danger to him for letting him eat them lol

Tomatoes are nightshades, all of which have toxic alkaloids in the stems and leaves. There are traces in the fruit as well.
You probably shouldn't feed tomato plants to your bird, but then it probably wouldn't eat them anyway because they're absolutely revolting. A person would have to consume a heck of a lot to get sick but a bird, who knows. Best to avoid since it's not nutritious or tasty anyway.
Ripe fruit is absolutely fine and very healthy. For all intents and purposes, you could say that there's traces of everything in everything. Avoiding tomatoes for this reason would be silly.
