concerned bout Amazon

Post by Gemstone »

hi guys,
just recently looking at Amazon he is getting black feathers and its not his ring they arent really dark or anything, but there are a few lines on his breast that are black and under his beak where his ring would come in, i cant get photos of these as i cant get a good shot of it.

I beleive he is too young to be getting a ring so i really want to know what it could be, we feed him seed, fruits and vegetables, and other things that we eat, nothing bad.

He drinks lots of water and gets to go outside so he has sunshine and a nice warm place to sleep at night.

Please help concerned mummy

Hard to tell without pictures. How old is amazon ?

My Jordan (lutino) began to get his red ring in at about 18 months of age. It can begin rather early.

silly me his age is on your signature

That is a bit young to be showing signs of a ring. Can't tell from the images, but it looks like the normal shadow all IRN's have, even females can have a shadow like that.

But I would say don't stress. Any other black marks around his body could simply be stress bars, they all get them and before long moult the feathers out to clean crisp adult plumage.

Aww, please tell us what he says. I've noticed even young IRNs have a little ring. In some light it can look darker.

up date on the concern i had for Amazon.

Got him looked at and yes it maybe his ring coming though at this age he is only 10mths next week, he has heard of babies getting there ring early depending on what hand rear mix was used, he was on all sorts of mixes as we didnt hand feed him from a baby.

As for black marks on his chest those are just some feather tips going black could also be bacause of what he was raised on, was told if its a cheap hand rear mix it can make the babies feathers change colour.

Nothing to worry bout we were told, he is so happy and healthy im glad its nothing bad.

But if its a ring woohoo a 10mth old with a ring will have to wait and see:)

Thanks everyone, hope this helps anyone else.

But dont take my word for your baby if they got the same thing it could be a different thing, plus was told if it was poor diet his feathers would be going pale not black.

hi

i just got my irn and he is between 6 and 9 months old. a black ring is coming through just slightly. I just want to reassure you that like humans and sexual development our baby boys may just be showing slight rings at their early ages. I don't think its anything to worry about. it will take long for the rings to reach their black and coloured stages.
