Can I see your home made cage or aviary?

Post by angeldc77 »

I was wondering if you guys could post some pics of cages or aviaries that you have built. I am trying to see if I can get some ideas on what to build when I move back to Florida.

Wow you did a great job!!! Was that a piece of furniture at first or did you built it from scratch?

Thanks! I built it from scratch (I'm a carpenter). That's the second cage I built. I made a smaller one for my first parrotlet a few years ago:

I don't like the look of the normal bird cages so I build them myself. :)

You are very talented, I have seen similar cages with plexiglass instead of the wire going for over $2000.00. Im sure if you could make some money if you wanted to. You really do build something special.

Those cages are great! What kind of material did you use for the sides? Some sort of metal mesh? Is the wood exposed to the birds on the inside/do they chew on the wood?

Those really are awesome! I've never seen a cage like that before, they look some much more homely (homey?) than a wire cage!

Those cages are beautiful. My husband made a bird cage out of metal and plexiglas for our IRN when he was 7 months old. We rescued him when the previous owner had clipped his wings so short that they would bleed and irritate him. He couldn't flutter to the ground so we were afraid he might break his sternum. We had to come up with a solution so he couldn't fall and hurt himself anymore. My husband does welding work as a hobby.

I tried to attach a photo but it says "The board attachment quota has been reached." I don't get what that means.

It's beautiful!, I daresay, at a pinch, you could adapt an old wardrobe, it would be cheaper than buying one of these from a store.
