How do I choose and prepare natural perches for my Ringnecks cage?

Post by Eralus » Sat Oct 10, 2020 6:33 pm

I'm bringing home a new Ringneck in the next week or two, and I'm wondering how I go about identifying a safe tree from which to harvest some natural perches for his cage. I know next to nothing about plants, so I don't really know how to identify a species to do research on it. Is it safe to assume a tree is appropriate if I see other birds using it? I live in QLD Australia if it helps.

And once I find some decent branches, what's the best method to use for cleaning them? I have seen a few forums claim I should bleach and bake them, but I'm hesitant because I imagine bleach is not something I want near my bird. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I thought this would be a good place to get some advice. Any information is appreciated, thanks!
