Buying/Identifying a Harlequin Pied Awareness

Post by Ring0Neck »

It is no wonder that so many breeders have sold/bought edged thinking they are pied.

WHY? Wishful thinking, greed, lack of knowledge, not doing their homework.
Buyers rely on breeders to have the birds IDed properly and it is imperative we do so.

Pic below is an example of one pied & one edged+
Can you tell which one is which? even if you do when they are next to each other, what about only one in the cage?
what if you were offered both as pieds, would you pick one as being edged?

left is a df SL Edge- the other a Dom Pied

not so anymore. someone was selling their blue edged cocks for $350 each! I've picked all mine up for under 60 each 8)

Incidentally the same people that sold their chicks for that amount above, bought the dam as a Blue Dom Pied, were clearly disappointed when it was pointed out that it wasn't (guessing they paid Pied price)- made their money back anyhow.

very true Molly.

Ben, love the fact all your babies will be edge- no guessing as to what's what- I would imagine to be very hard otherwise.

Ringo is right in that .. you have to see this from the eye of a person who only knows description and not seen many examples. someone who has not been there and done that ... it is very difficult not to be duped.
that is a good example of what selective breeding can achieve..
Ringo now go and look at a dilute turquoise and see which is more confusing.
Molly, you beat me to the punch here. :D
